Would You?

Warriors Arise: February 15, 2024

Matthew 7:9 & 10 Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent?

Do we need to answer the questions? "If your son asked for bread, will you give him a stone?" Yes or no. "Of if he asks for a fish, will you give him a serpent?" Yes or no. Why would Jesus ask such ridiculous question?

He made it so easy for us to get the answer right. I wouldn't give my son a stone if he asked for bread, would you? I wouldn't give my son a serpent if he asked for a fish, would you? I am guess you answered both of them, "no".

These referencing questions are to get our attention. I was listening to a dear friend of mine. She had missed the last Overflow Gathering where I talked about the Scripture, "perfect love casts out fear" (1 Jon 4:18). I shared when we are feeling the pressure or confinement of fear then we need to go before the Lord and ask for Him to expose the lie we are believing. When the lie is exposed, we can ask the Lord to touch that area or opposing mindset with His love and fear has to leave. Not only does fear have to leave but when it encounters God's love it is cast out. God's love lays hold of the fear and throws it out.

She responded, "But I feel like I am the one who will be cast out."

This exposed a mindset that didn't line up with God's word nor His actions. He does not want my friend to be in fear. In Isaiah 61, we know Jesus came to set the captives free. We do not have to remain in the prison of fear. We can receive God's love and in the very area fear paralyzed us, we will rise and walk, we will not grow weary.

When you ask for something God isn't going to give you something meaningly. He is not going to give you something useless. He is not going to give you something that will harm you. He is going to give you what you asked for. If you ask for bread, He will give you bread. If you ask for a fish, He will give you a fish.

Ask.

Ask specifically.

Ask intentionally.

Ask boldly.

The Bible tells us we are to boldly go before the throne, not arrogantly. God doesn't owe us anything. He has already done enough but just like good parents, we want to give more than our children ask for. God wants to give you so much more. Just ask. Allow God to be a part of your life.

My Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heave. Thank You for correcting my thoughts to align with Your ways. I will ask. I will believe You are going o give me what I have asked for. I believe You are giving me courage to boldly approach Your thrown. I will make my petition known. I will share with You my request. I will not expect the worst. I will expect Your perfect love for me. I will place myself fin Your presence, in Jesus' Name, Amen.
