Warriors Arise: April 30, 2024
Matthew 9:3 And at once some of the scribes said within themselves, “This Man blasphemes!”
Quite the accusation. Whenever I see a form of the word blasphemy it reminds me of one particular verse that convicted me years ago. It changed my life.
Romans 2:24
For “the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you,” as it is written.
I do not want people to blaspheme God because of me. That would be horrendous. It is convicting because I am a teacher of the Word of God. This verse keeps me in check. Let's read the verse in context.
Romans 2:17-24
Indeed you are called a Jew, and rest on the law, and make your boast in God, and know His will, and approve the things that are excellent, being instructed out of the law, and are confident that you yourself are a guide to the blind, a light to those who are in darkness, an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, having the form of knowledge and truth in the law. You, therefore, who teach another, do you not teach yourself? You who preach that a man should not steal, do you steal? You who say, “Do not commit adultery,” do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? You who make your boast in the law, do you dishonor God through breaking the law? For “the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you,” as it is written.
It isn't good for me to know the law and teach others to follow the law if I will not honor God through living what I teach. I am to be a carrier of God's love, compassion, truth, and Word. I am to live what I know. I cannot be one who teaches, yet doesn't live by what I teach.
I am not perfect. I have so much to learn, but I desire to live by what I know of God and His Word. I make mistakes and sin. However, when conviction comes, I seek the Lord and repent. I receive His forgiveness and make sure my relationship with Him is in right standing. I enter back into the spiritual battle and continue forward. I pray for the Holy Spirit to guide, teach and convict me. If I am out of line, I am sure He can and will step in to correct me. I make myself open to Him and there are others who have asked to hold me accountable.
Jesus was not being blasphemous. He was speaking the truth. He was living the law. He is the Judge and the Savior. He could forgive this man's sins. Their accusation was out of line. Just because they didn't know who He was. doesn't mean He had to be less than who He was.
My Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. I place myself before You. Holy Spirit come and convict me of any area in my life that does not align with Your Word and what I teach. I pray I will walk in the fullness of what You have revealed to me of Your Word. I pray I will be honoring in all that I teach of Your love, compassion and truth. I ask for continued clarity and conviction. I will submit to You and Your ways in Jesus' Name, amen.
