Why the Extra Words?

Warriors Arise: January 13, 2021

Cross Over part 17

Joshua 3:9-14 (NKJV) So Joshua said to the children of Israel, “Come here, and hear the words of the Lord your God.” 10 And Joshua said, “By this you shall know that the living God is among you, and that He will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Hivites and the Perizzites and the Girgashites and the Amorites and the Jebusites: 11 Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth is crossing over before you into the Jordan. 12 Now therefore, take for yourselves twelve men from the tribes of Israel, one man from every tribe. 13 And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests who bear the ark of the Lord, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of the Jordan, that the waters of the Jordan shall be cut off, the waters that come down from upstream, and they shall stand as a heap.

14 So it was,

Talk about a man's confidence in the Lord, in verse 10 And Joshua said, “By this you shall know that the living God is among you, and that He will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Hivites and the Perizzites and the Girgashites and the Amorites and the Jebusites:. Joshua's is completely sure, without wavering:

1. The people will know that the living God is among them and

2. God will without fail drive out from before the enemies occupying their promise land.

God desires to be among His people. Those who believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior have something others don't have. We have God with us! I'm not sure we understand this because if we did, we would be confident, secure, seizing God-opportunities left and right. We would not be afraid of the enemy.

Think of Paul, he was not afraid. He spoke boldly even in cities where they tried to kill him. He spoke with confidence because he knew God would do for the what He did for him. Paul who was known as Saul before his encounter with the living God changed with Emmanuel made Himself known. Saul had been a murderer. He gave the order for Stephen to be stoned to death. Saul had beaten and imprisoned disciples. Saul thought he knew what was best until he came face to face with God. Saul was studied, he knew facts but facts alone will not get you save. Saul had a "coming to Jesus" moment. Something happens when we recognize the living God among us.

When we recognize the living God is among us our attitude, our posture, our purpose changes. No longer were the children of Israel slaves. The presence of the living God was seated on the mercy seat about to pass before them. No longer were the children of Israel cast-aways, condemned to wander in the wilderness because of someone else's rejection of God's gift and rebellion of God's provision. The presence of the living God was seated on the mercy set leading them out of the wilderness and into their promise.

Joshua is so confident in God's ability his declaration of the Lord is challenging to most Christians. Joshua and Caleb know, we have been in this very position before. We are not going to let this pass us by, not now, not every. Joshua shouts to the people so they can all hear what God will do, He will without fail drive out from before you all of your enemies. God is going to drive out everyone who is occupying the land He has promised. Joshua really drives the point home when he says "without fail". They were unnecessary words. When God says He is going to do something, it is going to happen. But just so everyone is clear, they will not fail because God cannot fail.

When Joshua shouts this to the people, what do you think it did? People can respond a couple fo different ways. But if this word were to be spoken out, declared today, what would your response be?

I'm going to have to see it to believe it.

There is not way a wooden box covered with gold, carried by the priests going to stop the flow of the Jordan so we can get through.

I thought we were going to battle. Then someone is going to die.

What do you know to be the word of God for today? Months ago I encouraged everyone to practice listening to God, learn how He speaks to you, and follow what He said. We in a time between times and we need to know what God has said before we got to the river that blocks our way. For those who are confident like Joshua, they are sharing the word of God to encourage us to get our attitude on board with God's plan, our posture ready to respond at a moment's notice, and our purpose positioned before us to lay hold of what God promised.

I do not know exactly how God is going to do the miracle but I do know He will do a miracle in our country and in your life. It is unnecessary for us to know how. It is necessary for us to be ready in our attitude, posture, and purpose so we go through when what is keeping us from our promise land is pushed out of the way and we hurry through.

Father, You are amazing! Joshua was so confident and he declared Your Word to the people. You went before them. The priests didn't stop the water of the Jordan, You did. The wooden box covered in God did not stop the Jordan, You did. It was the presence of God making a way for His people when there was not way. The waters were at flood season. It would have taken weeks to build rafts and cart everyone and all they had across. You made a way. I ask for You to release You Word to Your people. I ask for each one to be prepared for Your Word. I pray we would embrace Your Word, without fail, You will get us through. We will embrace Your Word and follow Your lead. We will hear You speak. My attitude will align with Your declared Word. My posture will be ready to move forward and follow You. My purpose will be restored and I will receive Your promise for my life. Without fail You will intervene and fulfill Your promise to Your people in Jesus' name amen.
