1 Peter 2:9-10 (NKJV) But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.

"Why me?" Those two words can mean so many different things. What did you think of when you read those two words?

Excitedly jump up, "This is amazing! I don't know how it happened. Why Me?"

Did anybody think that? I highly doubt it. Generally, when we use these two words it is in a difficult, adverse situation. What we focus on is what brings us life or steals it from us.

I do not rejoice in difficult, adverse situations; however, I choose to look at them as something to get through not remain in.

Consider your life:

Where you are?

What you are doing?

What plans you have?

Are you stuck in something that happened decades ago? Are you still holding onto the hurt, pain, grudge of years past. If someone were to get you talking about a specific time in your life would you tell of something positive or negative? This is a legitimate test of whether you are over something from your past.

As one who had to overcome a lot of pain and adversity, there were a couple of times in my life where circumstances were so horrible that I had to tell myself to breathe. As the waves of adversity come crashing down upon me I didn't think I would come up for air. But Christ in me would not allow me to quit. He would not let me wallow in circumstances I could not control. The Holy Spirit would remind me I was worth fighting for, even if it was to make sure the agony, pain and disappointment didn't take me under.

The enemy is always wanting me to focus on the negative. He wants me to believe things won't work out. He wants to tell me I will always have gaping wounds that would fester and smell of poison. He wants me to listen to hopelessness so I will give up. Through the Word of God I have learned to identify the enemy's lies and apply the truth like a salve to my gaping wounds. When I could focus on the truth, healing could begin.

Not just me but you too. You are of a chosen generation. That means God has big plans for what you are to accomplish during your time here on earth. You are chosen. Say it out loud, "I am chosen." Not only that, say, "I am chosen by God."

Do you believe what you just said?

If you won't allow yourself to believe it then you will never truly understand what God has put you on earth to accomplish in this generation. It is not prideful; it is who you are to God. He has chosen you.

Most of us plan our lives outside of seeking God's counsel. Most of us use our own mind to figure out what we are to do. But if it didn't put a little fear of God in you, then you might not have heard what God wants you to do. If you can do it in your strength then it probably wasn't the dreams God had for you. If there is risk then there isn't growth in our faith and ability. We were not designed to live ordinary lives. We were created to live extraordinary lives. For what God has called us to do, we are going to have to be molded into the opportunity. To fulfill the plans God has for us, we are going to be uncomfortable, it is the only way for growth. A seed planted in the uncomfortable, cold, dark and never knew when they will breakout of their shell to become what they were created to be. But when the sun shines and the rains come, it feels potential inside of it, ready to burst and break free from the shell. In the beginning, the shell is there for protection. But once it is planted, in position of fulfilling its potential the shell has done its job and the growth within breaks through.

Agree with the Word of God. You are a chosen generation. You have purpose, God's purpose inside of you. Don't get so caught up in the running to and fro or the complacency of life, that you miss this time of being planted. God is planting His people and shortly the opportunities for growth, fruitfulness, and abundance will come.

A sign we have not allowed the Father to heal the pain of the past, overcome adversity from the enemy, or have become stagnate, living with less than what God has ordained, are in the words, "Why Me?" and think negative thoughts. A flow of the hurts, pains and defeat return to them. This is a seed that has gone bad, it has been exposed, and it can't produce it's potential.

A seed that has remained in the presence of God, has received healing through each disappointment, faced adversity and shoved it back, refused to get comfortable in life and stagnate in their relationship with God. It will be the seed that is ready to be planted in the fullness of what God has for them. This seed, this person, hears, "Why not?" and begins to dream with God over what He has put within them and the fruit they will bear for Him.

If you were a seed, would you be a healthy seed or a rotten seed? A seed can only produce from what it has inside.

Father, I look to You. I am amazed You never gave up on me. I pray my mind would recognize all those terrible times and disappointments that You got me through! I do not want to rehearse them any more. That is a waste of time and energy and it is stealing from what You have for me. I want to be a healthy seed for when You plant me. I ask for You to take me through each negative memory I hold onto. Give me courage to acknowledge that You have gotten me through. Life was not lost, but those times are when You showed Your love for me, gave me strength beyond what I thought was possible. I recognize now that until I let go of the pain attached to them and trying to hold others accountable that I will never be free and they will poison the seed within me. I want to be healthy in my mind and spirit. I want to be a seed that will produce good fruit. I must give up the pain of my past. I must give You honor and praise for getting me through. I must no longer live in the prison on my past, but see the possibilities of my future and the fruit that will grow within me to offer Your life to others. Come and minister to me in my mind and spirit. May I give up every past discouragement and disappointment as I see how much You loved me by bringing me through in Jesus' name amen.
