Warriors Arise: March 1, 2024
Matthew 7: 21-23 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’
Why does Jesus say this is lawlessness? I checked out the Strong's definition of lawlessness. One of the definitions is wickedness. Why is it wicked for these people to prophesy in the name of Jesus? Why is it lawless for them to cast out demons in the name of Jesus? Why it iniquity, transgression and unrighteous, according to the Greek definition of lawlessness, for them to do many wonders in the name of Jesus?
Jesus allowed them to prophesy, cast out demons and do many wonders because they were using His name. He answered because they used His name. There was to be no confusion as to where the power came from when they prophesied. It came from Jesus, the name they were calling on. There was to be no misunderstanding, Jesus had the power to cast out demons. He was not honoring the non-believer who were using His name, He was honoring His Father by allowing the power to come through His name. He did not want these people misrepresenting His ability nor His love. There was to be no uncertainty when they did many wonders. It wasn't the people doing the speaking who had the power, it was Jesus, the God who of wonders.
Jesus is the Judge. When we get to heaven, He will rule with justice. These people did not honor Him as their Savior nor their Lord. They were using Jesus but they were not honoring Jesus. They didn't want to know the God who answered their declarations. They only wanted to use His power. Maybe they truly had a heart of care, concern and compassion. However, it doesn't matter because they wouldn't honor Jesus as their Savior and Lord. They would not yield to His lead and embrace what He had for them. It is lawlessness because they wanted privileges when there was not sign of commitment to Jesus nor covenant relationship with HIm..
My Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. I pray for those who are using Your name to accomplish selfish desires to yield to Your lead. I pray they would become Your covenant. You are faithful, just and true. You will not be mocked. I pray for those who are using Your name for their own power and appearance to call upon You for their Salvation. I pray they would be in relationship with You and be known as Your child in Jesus' Name, amen.
