Where Are You Getting That?

Warriors Arise: February 2, 2021

Daniel 5:13-15 (NKJV) Then Daniel was brought in before the king. The king spoke, and said to Daniel, “Are you that Daniel who is one of the captives from Judah, whom my father the king brought from Judah? 14 I have heard of you, that the Spirit of God is in you, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom are found in you. 15 Now the wise men, the astrologers, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing and make known to me its interpretation, but they could not give the interpretation of the thing.

I listen to people share information and read information from others and wonder, "Where did they get that?" When information does not have facts then it is a person's opinion or gossip. A person's opinion does not result in accurate information to live by and gossip is a game people play to get you to listen.

Think about your time in middle school. The kid who could share the juiciest story got the ears of the other kids. We learn at an early age want people to listen to. The more we crave for people to listen to us, the more we thicken the story. However, some have to be able to share a story with such believability that no one will check the facts. Once a person is found out to be a liar, they lose the crowd.

People used to tell me how naive I was. It really made me upset. I felt like they were saying that I was stupid or ignorant. I asked a person who called me naive and they said, "No that isn't it at all. You are naive, because you think everyone is as innocent as you. It doesn't matter what people say, you believe what they say to be true." They went on to tell me how someone had told me something and they were completely lying. I had no idea they were lying to me. Why make up the lie? Why not tell the truth? Was it a matter of thinking I would think differently of them if they told the truth? Were they used to telling a lie, so the truth didn't even cross their mind? For some people it is the former and others it is the later. I often wonder, "Why are they lying when the truth sounds so much better." These people are lost in the lies. They have lied so much their mind does not comprehend the truth. Even when the truth is in front of them, their mind is tells them it is not true; it isn't what they see. We can deceive ourselves to such a point that we do not recognize the truth when it is directly in front of us.

The truth of the writing was right in front of the king's wise men, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers. But they were too used to relying on their own minds, their personal education, and their own interpretation of things that they did not seek God. In order to read the messages of God and receive what they are saying, we have to seek God, the one who wrote the message.

There are things happening in this world that only God's people are going to be able to interpret and understand.

Father, I ask for You to teach me. I want to be wise. I position myself at Your feet. I desire to learn of Your ways and walk with You. I pray for my eyes to be focused on You and my ears to be open to what You are saying. I pray to see Your movement and hear what You want me to do to join You. I do not want to be tossed around by those who want to tickle my ears and lure me with their lies. I want to know the truth and be set free from the deception of liars. I ask for You to teach me the truth and to share with me wisdom. I pray to know how to respond to the lies. I ask for You to teach me how to stand up to the deception and take a stand against the enemy who is seeking to take what You have given into my hands. I love Your wisdom and open my ears to hear Your truth. I will not walk in the paths of the wicked. I will not embrace the ways of the liar. I will walk with the truth and reject the gossip swirling around. I will know Your truth and live by it in Jesus' name amen.
