Warriors Arise: April 13th, 2020
When I was growing up a had a bedroom window facing the East. I loved looking out that window in the morning, especially if it had been snowing when I drifted off to sleep the night before. If the storm had passed and the sun shown bright, the snow would glisten like crystals, one big sea of opal. I am sure it was not a pleasant job but Jesus' body needed to be anointed. Three women were on their way to the tomb to honor the Lord when the sun had risen. While they are walking they are discussing, "Who will roll away the stone from the door of the tomb for us?" (Mark 16:4)
That question implies a great deal. First of all, they knew the stone was too heavy for them; they would need help. They knew the Roman's had put a seal on it and no one could open it. So why weren't they going to Pilate? They knew the priest were afraid Jesus' disciples would steal the body; therefore, there were going to need someone from the temple to be an eyewitness that they didn't steal the body, only anoint the body of Jesus with spices. Why did they go straight to the tomb when they were going to need to go through the red tape of bureaucracy in the Roman government and temple?
I can't prove this, so I will just share my thoughts. Had they gone to Pilate they might have been waiting for hours, maybe days, to get help. Had they gone to the Temple they might have been forbidden to go to the tomb. Had they taken the disciples with them, fear might have stopped them as soon as they saw the guards. The guards might have thought they were a mob and react militantly.
It would seem that they had learned well from Jesus. Go and do the will of God and He will make a way. They were prepared to anoint Jesus, as was custom. In their faithfulness to finish what could not be done when Jesus was placed in the tomb, they were positioned to see the miraculous. God even had their coming planned. If Jesus had died earlier they would have anointed Him before the tomb was sealed. No Jewish person could be doing burial rights/duties after sundown on the Sabbath. There wasn't enough time. The ladies had to return to anoint Jesus' body.
When the sun rises are you ready to finish what was started?
Father God, we are approaching two weeks on praying together. I ask for You to give me the tenacity to continue praying with the Warriors who Arise. I will stand together, declaring Your word, believing for the miraculous healing of those infected by the coronavirus. I will withstand the fiery darts of the enemy as I press in to release Your wisdom to direct the researchers, scientists, and doctors who are studying the find the cure for the coronavirus. I bind up the enemy who distracts their minds through confusion, fatigue, and division. I loose a togetherness, a one mind research team for the cure and the vaccine in Jesus' name. I bind the enemy who would steal their sleep. I loose the Holy Spirit to guard their sleep so they will begin a new day, arise with the sun and finish what was started. As the sun rises each day, renew their strength, their pursuit to find the cure and vaccine for the coronavirus. I lift up those who are infected by the coronavirus to sleep in Your presence and be strengthened each day. I pray they would not grow weary but be encouraged by each new sunrise. Father, speak to them, encourage them to hold on, to fight for another day, to believe You are coming with the antidote. I ask for You to hold each one in Your hand and minister to their mind as well as their body. I release peace to their mind and strength to their body in Jesus name amen.
