"Jesus said to her, "Mary!"" John 20:16a
To hear Jesus say your name... Have you heard Jesus say your name? No matter what your state of mind, when Jesus calls your name something happens. It's as if Jesus said, "Be still!" like He said in Mark 4:39. When Jesus called Mary's name, He rebuked the waves and wind around her. Her heart was beaten by the waves of sorrow and her thoughts were being blown by the wind of unbelief. Unbelief, what happened couldn't have happened and what they are saying happened couldn't have happened either. The winds were like a tornado swirling in her head. Then Jesus speaks her name, "Mary!"
Notice Scripture puts an exclamation mark after her name. Jesus spoke her name like He spoke to the winds and the waves. He wasn't shouting at Mary. He was silencing the winds of her thoughts and the waves of her emotions so she could recognize who was standing in front of her.
"...She turned and said to Him, 'Rabboni!' (which is to say, Teacher)." John 20:16b
In the middle of the devastation and chaos we need Jesus to call our name. We need to remember who He is. He is our Teacher. He will teach us the truth.
When we hear Jesus call our name our heart finds the right rhythm to thrive and our thoughts become clear and orderly.
When we hear Jesus call our name He is pulling us out of the mire and placing our feet on solid ground.
When we hear Jesus call our name He sets us free from the prison of the chaos and disaster.
When we hear Jesus call our name peace that surpasses all understanding enters into our body, soul, and spirit.
When we hear Jesus call our name everything changes. We know that we know God is in control; the old has past away and the new is laid out before us.
When we hear Jesus call our name we recognize Jesus is with us.
The past 7 weeks have been difficult for parents, children and teachers. For some, the school year ended 7 weeks ago and for others they found a way to continue with lessons. Parents had to step into the role of a school teacher for their children. This can be overwhelming when you don't want your child to fall behind. You realize you are the one responsible if they are going to advance in their education. As a homeschool mom this hit years ago. The weight of knowing my child's education level was dependent upon how well I taught them and held them to a standard of excellence. So many parents stepped into being a homeschool parent without making the choice. It was made for them as school after school sent kids home to do virtual learning. They didn't ask to be homeschool parents. They didn't want be homeschool parents, but they were forced. This is not the school's fault. This is an effect from the coronavirus.
School teachers and college professors had to figure out how they were going to equip the parents and the students to continue their education, trying to keep up with required learning needed for each to advance to the next grade level in the Fall. School teachers who were put into the position of providing materials, virtual classrooms, and curriculum to continue the education of their students, put in hours of work to help the parents and the students advance. It was not easy and they worked diligently.
As Mary recognized Jesus as Rabboni, we want to pray for the teachers and the parents who embraced home schooling their kids during this time.
Father, I am thankful You have walked with so many throughout this pandemic. It has created such havoc in people's lives. It really turned things upside down in our homes. I am thankful for each teacher who rose to the challenge to find and make a way for their students to continue their education at home. I pray a blessing upon each teacher. As each teacher closes this year's schooling, I pray You would give them peace and joy. I ask for You to settle their thoughts. I pray for the questioning of whether they did enough or could have done more to be settled by You. I ask for You to speak their name and bring peace to their minds. I ask for things to settle, as they look forward to the beginning of the next school year. I pray they would be led by You. I ask for You to speak to them. They have been teaching and know how to teach as each grade advances but next Fall will be different. I ask for You to guide each one in how to help some of the students to catch up. I ask that You would reschedule their days for what is truly needed to advance the education of each child. I pray they would open their ears to hear Your plan. They do not have to solve this alone. They can get help from You. I ask for each one to seek You so they will have the best plan for how to begin next school year. I pray for each one to be able to close this school year in peace and know You have a plan and Your plan will be the best plan. I pray they will seek you and hear you in Jesus' name. I pray for each parent to know You have been with them while they have been schooling their child at home during this pandemic. I pray they will honor the teachers of their children and see where they need to continue to assist their child in certain areas of their schooling. I ask for parents to see how their involvement in their child's education has benefited their relationship with their child. I pray for each parent to embrace their role in strengthening the education their child is receiving, beyond field trips and fundraisers. I pray for each parent to be actively involved in their child's education. I pray they will no longer leave their child's entire education advancement up to the school system, but they would continue working with their child's educational advancement. I ask for Jesus to speak to the parents and they will be at peace with the new role of being actively involved in the advancement of their child's education in Jesus' name amen.
