What is Your Response?

Warriors Arise: September 12, 2023

Matthew 4:20 They immediately left their nets and followed Him.

I had to laugh when reading verse twenty! Seriously, I just tidied up every room in the house! These men, Simon and Andrew, left their nets and followed Him. I can't say I heard Jesus call out, "Follow Me to the office and write your blog", but I wonder if I would have dropped everything that was in my hands and followed Him immediately. I wonder if I would have tidied up the house first before following Him?

How hard would it be to stop what you are doing, leave everything right where it is and walk away from it to follow Jesus? They didn't know who He was. They didn't even say, "Hey, could you let us put the nets up and secure our boat?" The way they responded is very similar to Elisha's response to Elijah.

Elisha didn't drop everything and immediately follow Elijah, but he did stop right where he was in the field, built an altar to God, burn up all twelve yoke of oxen and then caught up with Elijah. Elisha wasn't going back. He didn't immediately follow in Elijah's footsteps but he did make his commitment evident to everyone. There was no doubt in his mind, he would not be returning to farm. He would become Elijah's protégée.

Do you think this could happen today?

Has God come to you and invited you to follow Him?

How did you respond?

Did you leave your nets behind?

Did you make it so you could never return to your former way of life?

Did you have a plan B if the call on your life didn't pan out?

Did you go back to what was comfortable, familiar, and secure?

Did you catch up with God and walk in step with Him?

Father, I pray my mind, will and emotions would align with Your calling. I pray I would see Jesus coming. I pray I would be prepared, no matter what I am doing, to be done with what is in my hands and step into walking with Jesus. I pray I wouldn't question God's call. I pray I would be prepared, knowing Jesus will come and ready to make the transition from what I was doing to where Jesus is leading in Jesus' name amen.
