Psalms 78:38-39 (NKJV) But He, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, And did not destroy them. Yes, many a time He turned His anger away, And did not stir up all His wrath; 39 For He remembered that they were but flesh, A breath that passes away and does not come again.

I receive compassion, so I give compassion.

God, being full of compassion could judge me at any time and remove me from the earth, because of my sins. But He is full of compassion and His mercies are new every morning. He extends forgiveness to each and everyone of us. I am so grateful for the compassion of the Lord.

Luke 7:41-48 (NKJV ) 41 “There was a certain creditor who had two debtors. One owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. 42 And when they had nothing with which to repay, he freely forgave them both. Tell Me, therefore, which of them will love him more?” 43 Simon answered and said, “I suppose the one whom he forgave more.” And He said to him, “You have rightly judged.” 44 Then He turned to the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has washed My feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head. 45 You gave Me no kiss, but this woman has not ceased to kiss My feet since the time I came in. 46 You did not anoint My head with oil, but this woman has anointed My feet with fragrant oil. 47 Therefore I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little.” 48 Then He said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”

The above mentioned woman was known by all as a sinner. The Pharisee who opened his home to Jesus and His disciples was indignant of the woman's behavior and that Jesus seemed to not know who this woman was. He observed Jesus and said aloud, "He cannot be a prophet, because then He would know who this woman is." He missed the point. Jesus did know exactly who this woman was and her sin. She did not need to be cast aside; she needed compassion to remove the bondage of sin and to bring freedom from her sin. How easily do you forgive others when you know they are sinners? Even if they haven't sinned against you, do you hold them in contempt when they come before the Lord?

Psalms 86:15-17 (NKJV)

But You, O Lord, are a God full of compassion, and gracious,

Longsuffering and abundant in mercy and truth.

16 Oh, turn to me, and have mercy on me!

Give Your strength to Your servant,

And save the son of Your maidservant.

17 Show me a sign for good,

That those who hate me may see it and be ashamed,

Because You, Lord, have helped me and comforted me.

I need a Savior. I need One who will speak forgiveness over me. I need the compassion to flow and restore my soul. I need to receive a touch from the potter's hand to bring restoration to all that was lost while I was in sin. I need the Savior's help and comfort. I need His compassion to be extended to me not only for my own freedom and restoration, but so I can give it to others.

Zechariah 7:9-10 (NKJV) “Thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘Execute true justice, Show mercy and compassion Everyone to his brother. 10 Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, The alien or the poor. Let none of you plan evil in his heart Against his brother.’

I believe compassion is very similar to agape. If you have not received the gift of compassion from the Lord then you cannot give it. Agape is not a human love. Agape is an unconditional love that covers a multitude of sins. Love as in the following verse is agape.

1 Peter 4:8 (NKJV) And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.”

Anyone God would extend compassion to, is someone we should extend compassion to as well. We are the not their judge, because we are not their Savior. God makes the choice on those to whom He extends compassion. He instructs us to follow His lead. What we have been given is exactly what we are to give and give freely!

Romans 9:15 (NKJV) For He says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion.”

Father, I come before you and repent of my sin. I have judged others rather than offering compassion. There was a time in my life when I did not understand compassion. I had no comprehension of it's power to restore people from their life of sin and into the life of freedom Jesus gave them. I ask for You to forgive me for my judgement upon the sin of others. I am so thankful You saved me from my life of sin. I am thankful You extend Your compassion to me. I receive Your compassion to see me in my desperate state of sin and reach into my life and draw me out with Your compassion. Your love for me overwhelms me. You came and rescued me and I received Your touch, the touch of the Master's hand. Your hand has never struck out at me even though I know I deserved it. Your hand lifted me out of my pit and set my feet upon the solid Rock. I stand knowing You are my God and Your compassion has restored my soul and given freedom to the dreams You have placed within me. I will receive the fullness of Your compassion. I will pour out Your compassion upon others and speak forth their restoration and freedom in Jesus' name amen.
