Warriors Arise: December 14, 2020

1 Samuel 30:21-22 (NKJV) Now David came to the two hundred men who had been so weary that they could not follow David, whom they also had made to stay at the Brook Besor. So they went out to meet David and to meet the people who were with him. And when David came near the people, he greeted them. 22 Then all the wicked and worthless men of those who went with David answered and said, “Because they did not go with us, we will not give them any of the spoil that we have recovered, except for every man's wife and children, that they may lead them away and depart.”
David refers to the men who just fought beside him as wicked and worthless. These men had just fought beside David. They put their lives on the line to save their wives, children and each other. But WOW! when they are referred to as wicked and worthless men my mind is sent for a loop. Maybe they went too far when they said the men who did’t fight will have take their families and leave but how many of us what to share what we earned with someone else. In this case, the men who fought along side David could have died in battle. Thankfully they didn’t. Anytime you enter a battle it could be your last day to live. The men who battled did not want to give the men who remained behind any part of the spoil. It would have been common for the men who won in battle receive a portion of the plunder. They had won big. It was a huge victory. The Amalekites had collected an enormous amount of possessions from all the places they attacked in the Southern kingdom. These men wouldn’t share anything. Not only that, they didn’t even want the men who stayed behind to continue with David.
These men had not learned “team” yet. Even if you didn’t get to play in the game but are a part of the team, you get to share in the team honor. I remember when my Dad took a boys basketball team to state. He shared, “If our B team isn’t as good as our opponents then the A team will never be prepared for the game. My B team is just as valuable as my A team.” He wasn’t saying this to slight the efforts and accomplishments of the starting team, it was to give value to the subs and how important they were to get the starters ready for each game. If the subs do not pressure and fight for the ball like a real opponent, the starters will not be adequately prepared. There are times when the subs never get to play one minute of the game but because they practiced like the opponent, they prepared the starters to fight for the win. When these 600 men had come to David and sworn their allegiance to him, David became their captain (1 Samuel 22:2). What do you think that means? I think it means he taught them how to be warriors. He didn’t just teach them techniques to never use, he knew they would be in battle one day. He didn’t want to lose one man because they didn’t know how to be a warrior. He trained each and everyone of those men.
How is it that they not one of them died in the battle against the Amalekites? It wasn’t an easy battle, remember, they fought from twilight to the evening of the next day. They had to be conditioned and excellent warriors. How did they get to be excellent warriors? They were trained. David didn’t allow slackers in their training as warriors. Every man knew the art of the battle. Every man knew their life would be on the line at some point. Every man knew what their weakness in hand to hand combat because it would have been exposed in warrior training. It was exposed in warrior training because each an knew the battle style of his opponent. They knew these men.
God trains each one of us to fight the enemy. He teaches us His Word. He gives us armor and expects us to learn how to battle with it on. God tells us to be alert and watchful of the enemy. Jesus gave us the same authority God gave Him. Jesus shows us how to see the enemy and take him down. Jesus is the captain of the Lord’s army. He expects us to be ready for battle. He knows the enemy will come and battle us in close quarters. He gives us Scriptures to build our confidence, trust His power, and tell the enemy to go. Christ in us gives us the authority over the enemy.

My hope is for Believers in Jesus Christ to join together each day to pray, to push back the enemy as we release God’s power here on earth against the coronavirus, riots, and lies. The prayers will be listed each day as Warriors Arise. I will put a date with it so we can keep them straight. If you have any questions please feel free to make a comment or private message me.
