Today is Your Day, part 33

Warriors Arise: June 11, 2021

Ruth 3:16-18 (NKJV) When she came to her mother-in-law, she said, “Is that you, my daughter?” Then she told her all that the man had done for her. 17 And she said, “These six ephahs of barley he gave me; for he said to me, ‘Do not go empty-handed to your mother-in-law.’ ” 18 Then she said, “Sit still, my daughter, until you know how the matter will turn out; for the man will not rest until he has concluded the matter this day.”

Just a little chuckle when I read, "Sit still, my daughter, until you know how the matter will turnout..." Don't you know Ruth was thinking, "What have I done? What must he think of me? Why did you have me do that? I will have to go to another's field to glean. I can't go back to his field again!"

Of course, Ruth would want to do anything but sit still. She would want to be busy, doing something. She is a diligent worker. She doesn't sit still. She wasn't taking care of Naomi by sitting still. She was taking care of Naomi by keeping herself busy in the field. Now, she is told to sit still. If she has any attraction to Boaz, there is no way she is able to sit still without being on the verge of bursting from within. What if Boaz is unable to resolve the matter today? How is Naomi so sure that he will conclude the matter today? I don't even know who the other kinsmen redeemer is. Does Naomi? What if I am given to another man in marriage? What will he be like?

Can you imagine being told to sit still after an night like that? Since I couldn't sleep all night I would definitely try to sleep now. That would be the only way I could sit still.

How do you respond when matters are out of your hands? Ruth had done everything she knew to do to provide for she and her mother-in-law. Ruth had done everything exactly how her mother-in-law told her to approach Boaz. But the waiting! UGH! Anything but have to sit and wait!

Today is your day to sit and wait for God to work things out on your behalf. Keep in mind I am not telling you to sit still for days and days. This day, today, sit still and trust God to work things out in your favor.

Romans 8:28 (NKJV) And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

Philippians 2:13 (NKJV) for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.

Do you believe that it pleases God to work situations out in our favor? Not only does it bring Him pleasure to see us enjoy what He has done but His desire is not to live a life of suffering. What loving parents wants that for their children? No one! Neither does God. He wants things to work in our favor. And there are times when we will do what we are to do; be diligent in our work, honor others, and do what the authorities over us have said, He will work things out in our favor.

Father, I have not believed that You wanted good things to happen in my life. Forgive me for thinking You were out to make my life difficult. Forgive me for blaming You for the pain I have had to suffer and the heartaches I have had to endure. I have accused You of causing the disappointments in my life. I was wrong. You want what is best for me. You want what is good for me. You want what pleases You. You delight in me. You work things out for my good. You are the one who is for me. You are the One who goes before me and makes a way for me to prosper, to have more than enough. You restore my soul and heal my heart. You set my feet on high ground. You position me to be a blessing. You affirm my diligence and cause favor to come upon me. You are my Redeemer and I will sit still and trust You to work all things out for my good in Jesus' name amen.
