Luke 24:44-46 (NKJV) Then He said to them, “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.” 45 And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures. 46 Then He said to them, “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day

Jesus taught them of the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms, all the things that pertained the Him. Then He connects the Law of Moses to the need for a Savior. No not one is perfect; therefore, all of humanity would be condemned to hell. But Jesus made a way for each one of us to have access to God, if we choose to make Jesus our Lord and Savior. Jesus connects the prophecies of the Prophets in the Old Testament. One is coming who will be the Messiah, the Price of Peace, born of a virgin, fleeing to Egypt until they could return to Israel. All the prophets said regarding how the Messiah would come into the world came true. All the prophets declared of how Jesus would be treated before being crucified came true. All the Pslams referring to the character of Christ and the love of God came true.

Think of the disciple sitting there listening to Jesus about the Law of Moses and what they had just seen happen to Jesus, His blood pouring down His body as He walked the streets of Jerusalem on the way to Golgotha. The Laws were set in place by God, but after the fall they were unattainable by man without God. The Laws were not to imprison the people but to guide them in the best way of living; it had to start, be lived, and end with their relationship with God. Jesus fulfilled the Law of Moses only because He had the right relationship with God. He looked to God, prayed, followed, and did what He saw His Father doing.

Think of the disciples sitting there listening to Jesus share of the prophecies by the prophets of the Old Testament. Jesus quotes in Matthew 12:17-21 from Isaiah 22:1-4.

Matthew 12:16-21 (NKJV) Yet He warned them not to make Him known, 17 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying:18 “Behold! My Servant whom I have chosen, My Beloved in whom My soul is well pleased! I will put My Spirit upon Him, And He will declare justice to the Gentiles. 19 He will not quarrel nor cry out, Nor will anyone hear His voice in the streets. 20 A bruised reed He will not break, And smoking flax He will not quench, Till He sends forth justice to victory; 21 And in His name Gentiles will trust.”

This is just one of the many prophecies about Jesus which He tried to share with them before He was crucified. Now they could see how it related exactly with what Jesus had gone through. He did not cry out when the Pharisees had a bag put over His head telling Him to prophecy who hit him. He did not quarrel with Pontius pilot. Pilot wanted Him to answer, wanted Jesus to give Him a reason to spare Him. Jesus was bruised for our transgressions however, not a bone on his body was broken. Jesus sharing this connected the Old Testament prophecies with what was going to happen when He shared it before the crucifixion and as He went through it with the disciples again they saw how the prophecy was fulfilled in Christ.

Jesus needed the disciples to be sure of all they had been through with Him, all the miracles they had experienced, witnessed and been a part of, all of them happened. There would come a day when people would not believe their testimony and it might cause the disciples to question it themselves. Just like they struggled to believe Jesus was alive, standing right before them now. The only way to advance the kingdom of heaven is if they believed with all their heart, with all their mind, with all their body, and with all their strength.

Think of the disciples sitting there listening to Jesus share of the Psalms pertaining to Himself. He is the Rock, Deliverer, Strong Tower. He is the Messiah, our Refuge, our Fortress. He is my defense, my salvation, the cleft I run in to. They are seeing not Jesus as the son of man, but they are seeing Jesus as the Son of God. A shift changed when you have been introduced to someone, and you don't know who they are. Later someone tells you, "You know who you were just speaking with? That was God's Son. He came from heaven to meet you. He is here to bring salvation to all the earth and bring back the authority man gave over to the devil."

How do you respond to that? This is Jesus, their friend, Rabbi and miracle worker. He is the leader of their group. He is the one who always knows what to say and where they need to go next. He is the one who prays for them and for all people. He is the one who sits around the fire laughing, listening, and encouraging them. But now...now He is JESUS the Son of God who defeated death, crashed the devil's party, set the captives free and now sits before them in His glorified state.

Think of how their mind must have been exploding with understanding of all the Old Testament said and how Jesus fulfilled every one of the Scriptures pertaining to Him. IT IS ALL TRUE! Every last word.

As their mind makes each connection think of how their hearts must have been bursting with joy. Jesus, the Messiah! He did it! He did all of it! There is no question. We do not obey because He said so, we obey because we know He fulfilled every jot and tittle of the Old Testament! The disciples must have been beside themselves, even speechless as their mind understood.

Father, this comprehension of Jesus being the Messiah, the one who conquered the Law of Moses, the one the prophets of the Old Testament prophesies about, the one Psalms declared His greatness, is the One I live for now. I ask for You to come and minister to Americans. I pray Americans would search for the Messiah. I pray each one would seek You and find You. I pray when they find You they will declare You are their God. I ask for Your kindness to lead to repentance. I pray for each one to know Your amazing love is for them. I pray for hearts to be turned to You and lives to be lived to bring You glory and honor. I pray for each mind to be surrendered to Your will. I pray for the hearts and minds of the people to seek You for understanding and comprehension. I pray they would be moved to follow You in all their ways in Jesus' name amen.
