Mark 7:32-35 (NKJV) Then they brought to Him one who was deaf and had an impediment in his speech, and they begged Him to put His hand on him. 33 And He took him aside from the multitude, and put His fingers in his ears, and He spat and touched his tongue. 34 Then, looking up to heaven, He sighed, and said to him, “Ephphatha,” that is, “Be opened.”

35 Immediately his ears were opened, and the impediment of his tongue was loosed, and he spoke plainly.

The results speak for themselves. God's touch brings results. In reading back through this passage I had to reread "and they begged Him to put His hand on him." So Jesus obliged the people, He put his hands in the deaf man's ears. He then grabbed the man's tongue and it would appear nothing happened. "Then, looking up to heaven, He sighed, and said to him, "Ephphatha..." I know we have been over this part. But what sticks out to you?

"They" didn't know what it was going to take for this deaf man with a speech impediment to be healed. "They" begged Him to put His hands on him, but God wasn't going to bring the healing that way. Jesus, obliged the people, but the point to note: God is the one who directs Jesus. Remember the Scripture, "Jesus does only what He sees the Father doing." (John 5:19) The people wanted the deaf man healed through laying on of hands, but that isn't how the Father was releasing the miracle.

  • Is the touch of God enough? Absolutely.

  • Why did it take the Word of God? Why was the deaf man still deaf after Jesus laid His hands upon him? The people needed to learn that Jesus healed people based upon the Father's involvement, the Father's lead, the Father's action, the Father's way of releasing His power.

  • Did Jesus have enough power through His touch to heal the deaf man? Absolutely.

  • Why was the deaf man still deaf after Jesus laid His hands upon him? The people needed to learn that Jesus healed people based upon the Father's involvement, the Father's lead, the Father's action, the Father's way of releasing His power.

  • Did Jesus know what He was to do? Absolutely.

  • Why was the deaf man still deaf and speech impaired after Jesus did what the people begged Him to do? The people needed to learn that Jesus healed people based upon the Father's involvement, the Father's lead, the Father's action, the Father's way of releasing His power.

We must understand, "how" we get our miracle is up to God. Our opportunity is to position ourselves before God to receive the miracle. Our responsibility is to ask for the miracle. Our heritage is to receive the fullness of the legacy Jesus lived and demonstrated when He walked the earth. God is so very good but He wants us to come before Him and ask for what we need, the miracle we seek. He doesn't want us to come before Him begging as an orphan. He wants us approaching His throne as His child with hope. He wants us to ask with hearts full of faith. He wants us to see Him as Daddy and ourselves as the "apple of his eye." God loves us beyond our understanding and He desires to act of our behalf. He will direct exactly how the miracle is to happen.

When we approach our Daddy, we don't go to give Him the way things should be done. We approach our Daddy to make our request known. We place our petition before Him knowing He is going to hear it and act our behalf. We are to trust He has His way of accomplishing the miracle we need.

Father, You are my Daddy. Your thoughts are high above my thoughts. You like to surprise me with how You release Your power, love Your people, and make a way when things seem impossible. I imagine the people were doubting whether their friend would be healed. Jesus had touched their friend and nothing happened. Everything appeared to the people that Jesus was stumped, as if He didn't have enough power for this one. God, so many times I have come before You with a situation and I do not see what You have done before to bring the breakthrough "working" as before. I don't want to waver, but thoughts begin to run through my mind, "Maybe this time, God won't step in. Maybe I will have to suffer a little bit longer. Maybe I shouldn't have asked. Maybe He is too busy. Maybe He is bothered by me. Maybe I need to repent for something." Father, I send those thoughts out the backdoor by the Word of God, because "You will work things out for my good. Your timing is perfect. Your ways are just and true. You are for me not against me. You will open the door no man can close." You are my God and I will watch You release Your power in my situation the way You want in Jesus' name amen.
