The Touch of God, part 74

Warriors Arise: September 26, 2021

Mark 7:32-35 (NKJV) Then they brought to Him one who was deaf and had an impediment in his speech, and they begged Him to put His hand on him. 33 And He took him aside from the multitude, and put His fingers in his ears, and He spat and touched his tongue. 34 Then, looking up to heaven, He sighed, and said to him, “Ephphatha,” that is, “Be opened.”

35 Immediately his ears were opened, and the impediment of his tongue was loosed, and he spoke plainly.

We have been talking about the power of touch, but we can't miss the power of the spoken word. At times, the power of words can touch deeper than the power of touch. Words can reach into your past and heal the broken heart. The spoken words of truth can remove confusion from the mind. Words of encouragement can cut to the root of the fear that has paralyzed you. Words can touch the deepest part of who we are and what we are called to be. In this case, words the man can't even hear brings his miracle. Does that amaze you? God does the impossible. The things theFather has Jesus do are mind-boggling to the multitudes. The Pharisees can't explain it and the Sadducees will throw in their two cents worth.

How many people who watched what Jesus did then heard Him speak to the deaf man laughed, if not scoffed for a split second, before they recognized the deaf could now speak and was talking clearly? I don't know but our minds can judge a situation in a split second. It reacts and judges before we can stop it. But then the man speaks! The man hears! What happened? How did it happen? Why did it happen that way?

Does it really matter? Not one bit. What matters is that this man is healed. Has a miracle happened in your life and you want to know exactly why it happened to you, before you will embrace the fact that it did happen to you? It isn't that you lose the miracle but it is discarded like a gift that has been given and the receiver doesn't know what to do with it. Since they do not know what to do with the gift they have been given, they put it aside, store it on the shelf or in the closet. Years later they may sell it at a garage sale. All because they couldn't comprehend why they were getting the miracle. Some have turned away the miracle because they didn't feel worthy. Some wouldn't allow God to put His hands on them to start the healing process. This deaf man with the speech impediment needed both. He needed Jesus to touch Him in the very areas of His life he had been wounded. He needed Jesus to speak to the core of his being, to treat him normal. There was nothing normal about the way Jesus healed this man. Every step of what Jesus did was necessary, even Jesus stopping, looking up to heaven, and sighing before He spoke. Even the power Jesus operated in came from Heaven. That is the reality that people might have been missing. Would they ever understand the power Jesus operated in was for every Christian? Would they ever understand the power Jesus operated in came from the Father?

Father, You are amazing. I ask for You to touch the parts of me that need Your healing hand. I ask for You to speak to the depths of me that need Your Word as a foundation of a creative miracle, restoration, and redemption. I worship You. You give me strength each day. You are my God and I desire Your touch and Your Word spoken over me. Strengthen me today in Jesus' name amen.
