Rock or Sand?

Warriors Arise: March 6, 2024

Matthew 7:24-26 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.“But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand:

Where have you built? On the rock or sand? Have you built a sand castle before? We have on several occasions. We thoroughly enjoy building the stand castle together. It can take a lot of work. My kids get pretty elaborate. Even though we spend hours building it, the tear down is so much faster. I am not sure why we build. We know it will always be flattened and washed away.

Sand castles are not stable. As soon as the wave rolls up to the sand castle, it begins to lose it's foundation. As the wave continues to rise, more of the sand castle is shifting. When it finally crashes over it, the sand castle is a pile and very little is recognized of the once celebrated castle. Why did it crumble? It was not built on solid ground nor was it built with solid material.

I was in Texas this past week on a business trip. While there, I visited a friend and we went on a walk. One of the last pictures I took on our walk was of a piles of rocks that had been intentionally stacked. My friend told me the pile had been there a while. How did the rocks remain stacked?

The sand castle was made of sand and built upon sand. It's foundation was not strong. The pile of stacked rocks was built upon hard ground. In your own life, is your belief in God, your faith in what He has promised to be true built upon the Rock? Or is your faith unstable and washing away with every wave of adversity that comes your way?

How do you know if you have built upon the rock or sand? When adversity comes do you speak in faith and life in peace? If so, then you have built upon the rock. If you fear adversity before the battle line has even been drawn then your faith is as shifty as sand.

My Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. I pray of for my mind, will, and emotions to be set upon You. I pray for my faith to grow. When there is a part of my faith that is shifty, I ask for Your to strengthen me. I will look to You and walk according to Your plan. I will trust You, in Jesus' Name, amen.
