Matthew 4:19 Then He said to them, “Follow Me,…"

Oh, to have Jesus say that to me. Have you ever hoped for Jesus to some your way and say, "Follow Me"?

I remember as a child wanting someone to pick me. I raised my hand with the rest of the kids. I shouted out just like they did. Then I was picked. At that point, I wondered what I had gotten myself into. I didn't even know why I wanted to be picked other than those leading had asked for volunteers and everyone else seemed to think it would be a good thing to be picked so I joined in the excitement.

We can desire what someone has, but can we give what someone else gave to get what they got? I wonder if Simon and Andrew had an idea that they would be giving up their livelihood for the rest of their life. Their lives, what they did, and how they provided for their families, would no longer be the same.

When Jesus comes, will you want Him to pick you? Most likely you will not get all the details up front. He wants you to follow Him. Which mean you will have to trust Him when there may not be a clear path. He may not even let you see the path. He says, "Follow Me." You don't need to try and look around His shoulder or concern your thoughts with what is around the next corner. You and I are to follow Him.

I have learned it is so much easier and there is so much less stress in my life when I don't see what is up ahead but keep by eyes on Jesus and follow Him. I don't need to know what is ahead of Him. If I knew, I might not say, "Yes." I may talk myself out of it or have to engage my mind in a battle of belief over doubt. What lies ahead isn't possible without Jesus. So, there is no need to look ahead of Jesus where He isn't yet. When He gets there, all will be well. As He makes the way then I have a path to follow. There will always be a path behind Jesus.

Father, thank You for Jesus! I am so glad I do not have to blaze a trail. I say, "Yes," to Jesus. I rise and follow Him. I do not need to see around Him. He will lead me through the valley of the shadow of death and I will fear no evil becuase He is with me. He goes before me and makes a way when there isn't a way. He makes my path straight. I have no need to go up ahead of Him because I can't lead myself to victory, only He can lead me to victory. My place is to follow Jesus. I will follow Him in Jesus' name amen.
