Warriors Arise: March 18, 2021

Daniel 6:10-12 (NKJV) Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went home. And in his upper room, with his windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down on his knees three times that day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days.11 Then these men assembled and found Daniel praying and making supplication before his God. 12 And they went before the king, and spoke concerning the king's decree: “Have you not signed a decree that every man who petitions any god or man within thirty days, except you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions?”

Daniel knew of the decree signed by Darius and yet he went home to his upper room, with the windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down and prayed three times that day. It was probably all the governors and satraps could do to contain themselves. The informant saw Daniel pray as he always did, since his early days in Babylon. He sent a messenger to get a couple of the governors and satraps. They arrived at the next scheduled time Daniel was to pray and can you believe it! What good fortune we have! Daniel opened his window and prayed again!

The plan, now was how were they going to notify the king. They needed someone to go boldly, well, maybe not boldly, but trying to act humbly as they had someone tell on Daniel. Can't you see them trying to get a passer-by to see Daniel and go tell the king? What about them waiting for one of his servants to come out of his house and bribing him to go before the king? Who? Who would be so bold has to go tattle on Daniel to the king?

They knew King Darius was not going to be happy with the outcome. They knew he had to follow the law. But even so, it didn't mean he wasn't going to act in anger toward the person who stepped forward to speak of Daniel's defiance. Were they really so arrogant to think that the king wouldn't see through their ploy and what they had lured him into doing?

The king didn't need a reason to have someone killed and how were they going to get rid of Daniel, still have their own lives and hopefully get Daniel's position? It's as if they didn't think about the end of their plan, the different ways this could go. They were so overcome with jealousy they had a blindspot. In their mind it was first things first. We must get rid of Daniel. Even if it costs our own lives, we will see that Daniel is no longer here.

I don't think they even thought about their own lives, the consequences of their actions or the reality of the king seeing through their ploy. That is the problem with jealousy, it overtakes out ability to reason. We can't see the danger in our plan. We chose to be blinded by our jealousy when we think we won't get caught. Eventually, you will answer for what you have done. These men being oh, so bold, reminded the king of the decree he had signed and then accused Daniel.

Why do we get jealous? At the root of jealousy we will find the provoking desire to have what someone else has. We have all been there, but how do we avoid being overcome with jealousy?

Is it our view:

  • Be grateful for what you have.

  • If you want something, you need to first see if you are the reason you don't have it.

    • Will you work? Then you would have money to buy it.

    • Will you be accomplished in school? Then you will have an education to get the job you want to get the things you want.

    • Will you be diligent to develop your skills, talents, abilities? Then you will achieve what you dream.

    • Will you develop an excellent work ethic? Then someone will hire you for the job you want.

    • Will you have a positive attitude? Then someone will promote you.

If not, then will you stop complaining of those who have what you don't. Not every time but most of the time, we do not have what another person has because we didn't apply ourselves, we didn't work for it, we didn't have a positive attitude, we wouldn't come along side of them to learn what they know, to do what they did to get what they got.

These men, the governors and satraps, they knew Daniel. They knew Daniel's God had saved their necks years before when Nebuchadnezzar was going to have all his wisemen killed if they didn't interpret a dream. But Daniel prayed, and God gave him the dream and the interpretation. Daniel had saved their lives. But now, they just couldn't handle Daniel being promoted above them. Do you wonder why there is no recording of them going to Daniel to know his God? Oh so bold, to set a trap and rat him out but so unwise to recognize they could have what Daniel had. They could have had a relationship with God. There are plenty of people in the Bible who were not born Hebrew and God still chose them, allowed them to receive from Him (i.e. Rahab and Ruth). But these rulers would not humble their hearts and receive from Daniel.

Father, I ask for you to come and speak to me. Is there jealousy in my heart? Do I want what someone else earned so desperately that I reject acknowledgement of how they got what they achieved? I come before You and ask for You to reveal in my heart any jealousy. I will bless their life, their marriage, their children, their calling, their purpose to be set on godly principles and be blessed in all You have them to do. If my heart is yearning for what they have because I am to learn from them or receive knowledge, wisdom, understanding, and depth of relationship with You I ask for You to open the opportunity so I can learn, receive and apply. Thank you for loving me. I bless all You have given me to prosper. I pray to be lead by the Holy Spirit to love You and others, to honor You and others, to learn from You and others, to join You and others. Come and minister to my mind, will and emotions. I submit them to You. Come and minister to my body, I receive healing, wholeness and strength from You. Come and minister to my spirit so I am overflowing with Your wisdom, love and power in Jesus' name amen.
