Warriors Arise: October 24, 2020

Luke 24:44-45 (NKJV) Then He said to them, “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.” 45 And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.

Before Jesus is crucified, He tells His disciples a number of times to meet him on a specific mountain in Galilee after His is risen. They struggled with understanding how this could be before He was crucified and afterward the disciples still lack comprehension. Jesus took the time to teach them again, what He said had happened. Luke 24:44 reminds me of something I wrote about months ago, about the two men walking from Jerusalem to Emmaus on the day Jesus arose from the grave.

Luke 24:25-27 (NKJV) Then He said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?” 27 And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.

Jesus was going to teach the disciples what He taught the two men on the road to Emmaus. Keep in mind, the two men already shared with the disciples what Jesus had taught them.

Luke 24:30-35 (NKJV) Now it came to pass, as He sat at the table with them, that He took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. 31 Then their eyes were opened and they knew Him; and He vanished from their sight. 32 And they said to one another, “Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?” 33 So they rose up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven and those who were with them gathered together, 34 saying, “The Lord is risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!” 35 And they told about the things that had happened on the road, and how He was known to them in the breaking of bread.

These two disciples had told the eleven disciples all Jesus had taught them about the Prophets, Moses and all the Scriptures concerning Jesus. Now, Jesus teaches them personally. He is speaking to them. Jesus needed the disciples to understand. They are positioned to be the ones to start the expansion of His kingdom here on earth. They need to understand grace, redemption and life everlasting. They needed to understand authority, dominion, and God's heart for all people.

Jesus reminded them, not the first time, He shared what had to happen and did happen. He needed them to understand how important it was that everything He did was to fulfill Scripture. Scripture can only be validated by the Messiah, the Christ. Years later when the disciples are already passed, Scripture would validate itself. Several of them were going to write the New Testament. Every word needed to be validated because the Word of God is the only truth we have. There can be no error. There can be no question of its validity. Therefore, Jesus had to fulfill the Law, the word of the Prophets, the Psalms, and all Scripture pertaining to Him. Jesus knew there would be a time when:

No one who had received healing from His touch would be alive to testify.

No one who had been delivered from demons would be alive to testify.

No one who had eaten of the from the two fishes and 5 loaves would be alive to testify.

No one who had heard His teachings would be alive to testify.

No one who had walked with Him would be alive to testify.

No one who had sat at His feet would be alive to testify.

No one who had received their sight would be alive to testify.

No one who had answered His call to follow Him would be alive to testify.

No one who had received His breath would be alive to testify.

No one who had agonized as He hung on the cross would be alive to testify.

No one who had seen Him return to life would be alive to testify.

These eleven and all who were seeking Him need to be taught of the Scriptures. They needed to understand grace and redemption, love, forgiveness, understanding and testimony. They had to be able to connect Scriptures from the Old Testament to Jesus being the fulfillment of the Law, the Prophets and all that was said of the Messiah. Jesus left nothing undone, all had been complete in Him. He had accomplished what was needed for people to be in relationship with God. Jesus took the time to teach His disciples so they would have understanding.

Luke 24:45 And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.

Jesus opened their minds to understand so they could advance His kingdom.

Father, I ask for You to come and teach us Your Scriptures. We need to know the fulfillment of the Old Testament and the hope of glory revealed in the New Testament. I ask for Americans to be drawn to Your Word, to put themselves under Your teaching and received understanding. Why is it so hard to understand Your ways even when truth is before us? I pray each one would submit their own ideas to You. I pray You would guide and direct each one in Your truth. I pray each one would trust You, knowing Your ways are the best for them. I ask for You to give us understanding and lead us in Your righteousness in Jesus' name amen.
