Matthew 6:7 And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.
Sometimes, as a parent, I just want to know if my kids have heard me. I want to know if they understand what I am telling them. It is always a delight, and it is generally years later, when I hear them giving someone else the same counsel or advice I gave them. As my oldest daughter is back home, going to a community college, she will come home and say, "I pulled a Mom today. I'm just being your mini me." Then she will proceed to tell me the counsel she gave another that I had given her.
Earlier this week, I was giving Selah counsel over her grades. She was really stressing over them. She diligently studies, asks her teachers clariety questions on lessons and assignements, does the extra worksheets etc. However, geometry gives her a hard time. In trying to get it up to an A, her other grades are now suffering. I told her, "Honey, it seems like you are saczrificing all fo yoru grades in order ot get this one to an A. Be careful in sacrificing the other grades just for this one. When the rest are As then one B or C isn't going to cost you as much as you think."
Two days later she was talking with another girl who is getting a C in gemetry and As in everything else. She shared with Selah, "I'm still getting over a 3 point."
Selah came home and told me I was right. ;) And she relaxed a little with geometry in order to get her other grades back to As. She still is working for the A, but not at the expeinse of her other grades.
These moments are a delight. I believe God is the same way toward us. He delights when we are applying His Word to our lives. When we pray using Scritpure, we are praying/declaring we believe Him. We trust what He said is our's is actually our's. He is proud of us when we pray according to His Word.
He doesn't want prayers that are vain repetition. He wants to hear that we understand His Word, the blessings it holds, and the empowerment when we apply them to our prayers. That is music to His ears.
Father, I pray to remember Your Word. I desire to pray speicifically for what is needed. I ask fo the Holy Spirit to remind me of Scritprues and Biblical history where soemone else has gone through what I am facing. I know what You have done for them is an example of what I can also use to come through. Your Word gives me stregnth and courage to rise up, take hold of Scripture, and pray accordig to Your will. I will pray specifically emoowered by Your Word in Jesus' name amen.
