It Has Meaning

Warriors Arise: October 1, 2020

John 21:12-13 (NKJV) Jesus said to them, “Come and eat breakfast.” Yet none of the disciples dared ask Him, “Who are You?”—knowing that it was the Lord. 13 Jesus then came and took the bread and gave it to them, and likewise the fish.

This must have brought back so many memories. I do not know how many times Jesus served them their meal, but there are few times specifically recorded in Scripture. The feeding of the 5,000 and later the 4,000, but also the last supper before Jesus was crucified. Now He is here before them and has prepared breakfast.

Jesus is intentional with all that He does.

• What is the significance of Jesus coming as the sun rose?

• What is the significance of the miracle: nothing in their net all night long and now it is overflowing with a multitude of fish?

• What is the significance of Jesus having already prepared breakfast for all of them?

• What is the significance of Jesus taking the bread and giving it to them and doing likewise with the fish?

The timing and actions taken are pretty intentional.

• The women came to the tomb when the sun arose.

• Nothing in their nets is similar Jesus not in the tomb.

• Where there was no Jesus, there now is an angel to send a message and two more when Mary returns. One sitting where Jesus' feet would have been and one sitting where His head should have been. When she turns around she is face to face with Jesus, thinking He was the gardener. The miracle of the multitude of fish now in the net of the disciples, because Jesus said they would be there.

• Jesus has breakfast prepared when they arrive on shore. He told them to fellowship, to stay with and bless with peace those who would welcome them into their homes. Jesus welcomes each one of these disciples into His kingdom.

• Jesus taking the bread and giving it to them and doing likewise with the fish reminds me of the miracle of the 5 loaves and 2 fish the little boy offered the disciples to feed the 5,000. When Jesus called to them from the shore, He addressed them as children. He has told the disciples they are to have faith as a child. This is when their belief, that Jesus is alive, is solidified. Having faith like a child, Jesus can do the miraculous with the little I have to offer.

I picture them sitting around the fire, remembering the last three and a half years with Jesus. The way that John says it, "Jesus then came and took the bread and gave it to them, and likewise the fish" makes me think this is important. This would be the last time Jesus served them. The lesson He was trying to teach them at the Last Supper when He humbled Himself and washed their feet. Earlier in the their time together, He told them, "the first will be last and the last will be first". Jesus, the King of kings. He has conquered the devil, overturned hell and came back the victor. He is serving His disciples! Wouldn't you think they would be clamoring to be the one to get to serve Him? They know He is the LORD. They know He is the Son of God, the Messiah, Emanuel. They know who He is.

Father, it really has been a rough day. Not that anything has gone terrible, but just a day where my heart is heavy. I know who You are. I know You can overturn the lies and the truth can be made known. I pray we would be a people who want to know the truth, want the facts verified, and want to walk in the truth. I ask for our hearts and minds to be turned to truth, justice and righteousness. I realize we are not perfect, but that doesn't mean we are to let that keep us from knowing the truth and striving to live by it. I know You can put an end to COVID-19, speaking the formula for the cure. You can even speak death to COVID-19 and it would be dead and all of its counterparts. I know You can restore the bodies of those fighting COVID-19, chronic illnesses and terminal disease. I pray for You to touch their bodies and heal every cell that needs to be made strong. You are full of goodness and Your mercies are new every morning. I pray for Your lovingkindness to reach down from heaven and restore the broken hearted and set free those who are imprisoned to a lying tongue and that they would know the truth. I pray for those blinded by hatred to receive Your kindness and repent for their evil toward others. I pray for those who are too young to have a say, those who are being murdered in the womb, those who are being captured into sex trafficking to be found, to be placed into good Christian homes, to be raised in the ways of the Lord. I ask for You to intervene in situations we cannot. I ask for You to be the wisdom upon which our thoughts dwell and our actions pursue in Jesus' name amen.
