Warriors Arise: January 23, 2024
Matthew 6:25 “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?
"Is not life more than food?" There are times when we can be fussing too much over food. Generally, every potluck has more than enough food. If you have put a women in charge of an event, she will not run out of food. She will make sure there is plenty of food to go around. Sure, you might be able to remember that one time when there was not enough food, but how many times do people talk about all the leftovers people are taking home or throwing out because they couldn't find anyone who would take it?
It is important to God for you to have food and be clothed. When Jesus is sharing about this is He thinking ahead about Martha?
Luke 10:38-42 Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word. But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.”
And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”
Martha has spent all that time in the kitchen preparing something Jesus hadn't asked for. She was worried they would not have the food prepared when Jesus was done. We can worry about things that could wait. Yes, serving Jesus a meal would be an honor; however, who is the honor for?
Would it not honor Jesus more for Martha to have sat at His feet and learned from Him? We can honor people with what we give them as well as what we receive from them. Jesus wants us to discern what is more honorable and do it. He does not want us to worry about what we will eat or what we will both ourselves with. There are bigger issues in front of us. We need to be able to trust God to provide for the food and clothing.
My Father in heaven. Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. I look to You to give me the daily bread I need, physically and spiritually. I will keep my eyes on You. I will take my eyes off of food and clothing. Those are things I know You will provide. They are the necessities of life but they aren't the focus on my life. You will provide for me. I will keep say eyes on You and do the ministry You have before me in Jesus' name amen.
