Is It One and Done?

Matthew 6:7 And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.

This does not mean it is a one and done prayer. Jesus isn't telling them to pray only once. That would contradict the Scripture from 1 Thessalonians 5:16 and 17,, "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing..."

If we are going to pray without ceasing, there is going to be some repetition. In Ephesians 6, Pauls tells us to pray always. He sees prayer being warfare against the enemy, the powers of darkness in heavenly places. Our prayers are to take down the forces of wickedness.

Several times, the disciples are looking for Jesus and He is off praying. If anyone ought to know how to pray, it would be Jesus. He did not pray one time. When He would pour out through teaching or miracles, He would take the time to go to the Father and replenish. In His human body, He couldn't just keep going. He had to rest, remain in the Father's presence and keep Himself filled through prayer. It was not a one and done prayer.

The word to focus on would be vain. Vain means producing no results. We are to pray with intention. We are to pray knowing when we do, we are entering the courts of heaven. God is ready to judge on our behalf. He is for us. We are not to stand before Him reciting prayers we do not believe. We are to pray with faith, knowing God hears us.

Father, I ask to be aware with it will take more than one time to pray. I do not want my payers to be spoken in vain. I want them to be intentional and full of faith. I know You hear me and I know You answer. I trust You. You will make all things work together for my good. You will cause rivers to flow in the desert. The crooked places will become straight. I worship You and will pray for Your will to be done in Jesus' name amen.
