1 Samuel 30:18 (NKJV) So David recovered all that the Amalekites had carried away, and David rescued his two wives.

When I read history of this particular event, I have wondered why it seems like there are so many details left out. Then I think, if there had been a lot of details about the pursuit and the battle then focus would have been on the men rather than on God.

David and his men did exactly what God told them to do, "Pursue and overtake." God followed up with "and without fail recover all." They did what God told them to do and they received exactly what God said they would. This is the God we serve, seek, and submit to. He will do what He says He will do. He will make us succeed where He has told us to go. As we follow Him, He will lead us to achieve the plans He has put before us.

Simply put, "So David recovered all that the Amalekites had carried away." God fulfilled what He promised.

There is a difference here between David given a direct Word from God on what he was to do and us reading this passage and claiming it for ourselves. The Holy Spirit can lead us to a passage and we recognize we are in a similar situation where God is giving the instructions to us and the promise to go with it. Then there are times when the Holy Spirit didn't tell us, yet we petition God because we recognize the situation as similar; however, the outcomes is not guaranteed. This seems odd but we must recognize the difference of the Holy Spirit leading us to how we are to engage the enemy and the promise to follow verse choosing to follow what we have seen in the Bible. We aren't wrong to follow the Scriptural reference; however, because we weren't led to the passage by God then there is not an assured promise. We can pray, we can petition God, and in the end, the outcome is up to God. He has His reasons and we trust Him. His reasons are far beyond our own.

I have prayed since I was a little girl for my mother to be healed, to walk again. Life was difficult and I struggled. I did not understand why God would not heal my mother when I knew He could. I don't know that I ever got bitter toward God; but I did struggle with my value since He didn't answer my prayers for my mother's healing. Some time in my young adult years the Holy Spirit ministered to my soul. He did not tell me to stop praying for my mother's healing but He did confirm in my heart that God's love for me was no less than it was for anyone else just because He didn't answer my prayer the way I wanted.

I continue to pray for my mother's healing, for her muscles to be restored, and her youth to be renewed like the eagle's. Several years ago someone came up to me. They said something that seemed offensive but the Holy Spirit used it to encourage me. "I can't believe well your mother is doing with her MS. I don't know of anyone else who has had MS that long who is doing so well. Most of them die." I am not sure how I responded to this lady. I was taken aback by her statement. After she left the Holy Spirit spoke to me, "Your prayers have kept her strong enough that your Dad could continue to take of her." I know it wasn't my prayers alone. Many people have prayed for my mother. Each one of our prayers have sustained my mother and continue to minister to her. I didn't get what I wanted as a little girl and yes, I continue to pray for her complete healing. I know God is on His throne and He hears me. He doesn't always answer the way I want but that doesn't mean He doesn't care. He hears every one of my prayers because He cares for me and what I am concerned with.

David was given a plan and a promise and he followed the plan; therefore, he received the promise. God is faithful.

Father, I celebrate that people have turned to You for direction in the midst of their heartache and pain. I celebrate the plans You have given when they have called out to You. I celebrate the promise of what You have given. Every Word you have said has come to pass. I trust You with everything that I am. I trust Your answer even when I do not understand. I trust Your direction even when it is somewhere I do not want to go. I trust You because I know You hear me. You are with me. You comfort and encourage me. You are my God and I will honor You with my heart, soul, and all of my strength in Jesus' name amen.
