2 Corinthians 5:17 (NASB) Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.

I am made new, a new creature in Christ.

Remember these statements we are saying are true for those who are in Christ. How are we in Christ? We have confessed our sin and asked Jesus to be Savior and Lord of our life. We are no longer in control. We do not make decisions based on our insight but we seek God's wisdom. We position ourselves to hear Him and be directed by Him. We know His ways are best and our thoughts most likely are not even second best. I do not consider myself to be wise. When I have appeared wise it is because I have actually listened to God and followed His plan.

I like new. It can be a second hand item, making it brand new to me or it can be so new that it still has that brand new smell. I like new especially when God says I am a new creature. I am relieved that the old has past away and new things have come.

Several years ago God brought to my attention about how much time I spend thinking about my past, especially the painful parts. They were like an irritating rash underneath my clothes. I knew better than to scratch them because then I wouldn't be able to stop scratching! But when a thought from my past would come unexpectedly, it was as if I had scratched it unknowingly, unintentionally. Sadly, the nerves would send all kinds of signals telling me to really give it a good scratch. I knew if I scratched it once it would take minutes before I would get the strength to stop scratching it. I realized I needed to resist giving in to scratching the rash even if it was irritated unintentionally. Sometimes even being around a person who was part of the bad event can cause the rash to flare up. I have had to turn to God, forgive and put a covering over the rash so it would get irritated.

The bad events from our past can be like the rash underneath our clothes. A wistful thought comes through our mind and scratches that bad event and we dwell on it for minutes. Our mind can become consumed by it. The thoughts can grow in our mind all day long. Before we realize it, we have lost another day being defeated by something from our past. When Jesus died on the cross He gave us the ability to bury defeating events from our past. I have never seen someone saved and their entire body is made new. So this has to be referring to something else.

  • Being made new, may refer to the opportunities before us.

  • Being made new, may refer to redeeming the time and restoration taking place over the bad events from our past.

  • Being made new, may be there is a cleansing within our body, soul and spirit.

  • Being made new, may open doors to understanding God and His ways.

  • Being made new, may release us into the fullness of God's plans for our lives.

  • Being made new, may totally remove us from the track we were on to another track headed to fulfilling the dreams placed within us.

  • Being made new, may pull us out of the muck and the mire of our sin and set our feet above on solid ground.

  • Being made new, may strengthen our body.

  • Being made new, may give us the ability to comprehend the love of God.

  • Being made new, may put a resolve in us to follow God no matter the cost.

  • Being made new, may bring the balance to our emotions so we are not driven by our feelings but keep our feelings in check with what is true and how we are to respond instead of react.

  • Being made new, may renew a right spirit in each one of us.

  • Being made new, definitely gives us the opportunity to begin again, to start fresh, to be redeemed, restored, and live our life according to God's leading.

I am made new and I will receive Jesus' healing over the bad things from my past. Thank You, Jesus, for healing the rash, restoring my skin and making me whole. I will not remember the bad events from my past as if I had a rash under my clothes, but only as a testimony of the complete healing power of the Lord Jesus Christ. I desire to receive what God says is mine. I am a new creature. The old has past away and I am made new. Where the rash was, I have new skin. It is restored and new. God work is complete in me. I will not be held captive by the bad events of my past. I am a new creature in Christ and I will live with what Jesus died to give me.

I am made new, a new creature in Christ.

Father, I thank You for making me a new creature in Christ. Thank You for giving me the ability to resist scratching the old events of my life. Thank You for Your healing to completely remove the rash, the bad events. I will only remember them to give testimony of what You have done. I will share how You rescued me and restored to me what was taken from me. I will share how You have made me new in Jesus' name amen.
