Warriors Arise: April 4, 2024
Matthew 8:22 & 23 Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him. And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep.
They weren't on a cruise ship. He wasn't tucked into a cabin shielded from the wave crashing over the edge. He was in an open boat. He could feel the rain hitting Him. How could Jesus sleep?
Jesus was at perfect peace. Scripture tells us Jesus only did what He saw His Father doing. His Father was going before Him over to the other side. The tempest didn't bother Him. It wasn't going to change what He knew His Father wanted Him to do. He completely trust His Father and His disciples. He knew God, His Father, would not lead Him into a situation that would prevent Him from moving forward with Him.
In Psalm 23 verse two, there is a line, "He leads me beside the still waters." This tempest didn't bother Jesus because He fully trusted His Father. He knew nothing could stop Him from doing what God had shown Him to do. His eyes were on His Father and He had gone to the other shore. So, Jesus would follow His Father to the other shore. He fully trusted God. He would meet Him across the sea on the other shore.
Jesus found sleep, embraced sleep, because He completely trust His Father. You may be facing a situation right now. You may look to the dark clouds of that situation and see impossibility to get to the other side. You might not be able to see clear skies ahead or the dark clouds parting. You may feel the sting of the rain as it hits you. You might even feel like you have lost your footing because the waves come crashing in one you and all around you. Have you forgotten what God has said to you? Do you know why you are in the boat? Do you know where you are supposed to go? Do you see God on the other side?
Remember what God told you before you got into the boat. Remember where you saw God before you laid your head down on the pillow. Trust God to get you through. Rest in His hands. God will get you to where He has told you to go regardless of what tempest comes your way. Nothing can stop, but you, can stop what God has told you to do or where He has told you to go. Jesus knew this. He had no trouble sleeping. He found the peace that surpasses all understanding. Therefore, He slept while the winds were howling, the rain was hitting like pellets and the waves were crashing over Him. Can you?
My Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. What You say, I trust will happen. Where you are leading me, I trust You will get me there. What You have called me to do, I will do. I trust You. I will sleep soundly because You are faithful in Jesus' Name, amen.
