Have you ever asked for someone, you turn around and they are standing righting front of you? I have. Generally, I don't know what to say, because even though I was asking about them, I didn't have my thoughts together about what I wanted to say. Awkward! At least Mary didn't realize it was Jesus, the one she had been seeking, weeping over, and talking to the angels about.
"Now when she had said the, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, and did not know that it was Jesus." John 20:14
However, it might be worse that she was talking about Him and she didn't realize it was Him. Then she was standing in front of Him and didn't recognize Him. Sadly, in our relationship with God this happens to us more times than we know. Jesus is Emmanuel, God with us, and the Holy Spirit resides in us, when we confess our sins and make Jesus our Lord and Savior.
"But as it is written: Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him." But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit this is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God." I Corinthians 2:9-12
When you and I pray the Spirit of God is activated in us. We have an open door to be seated with God in heavenly places. As a pre-teen and through my teenage years, I prayed as if God was somewhere "up there." My mind was convinced that there was a holding tank or filing cabinet with prayers, in chronological order, of course. I would pray and then see if God had an answer about two weeks later. After Scott and I were married, we read through the Bible cover to cover. I had never done that before. I had devotions and knew the Sunday school lessons. While we were reading, I was learning so much about God and how much He wanted to be in a relationship with His people. I saw His mercy overflow in so many lives throughout the Bible. Why did He give so many chances to people who were obviously never going to love Him, as He loved them? I became even more grateful for my own salvation and godly parents, who took our family to church and showed us how to honor God with our lives. I was humbled by the fact that no matter how much I loved God and served Him, I would never be able to love God as much as He loved me. One thing I could do was to learn to know when He was around, when He was speaking, and when He wanted me to get involved. Sometimes being helpful, hosting, assisting, serving, building others up, supporting, and the silent but powerful one who would pray.
"But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. Ephesians 2:4-7
God wants to do things TOGETHER. It is not about me praying or even recognizing when He makes Himself known around me. but when I pray it is as if I am "up there" with Him. I want to sit with Him up there, so I can see from His perspective. People wonder why I can be so positive. It's because even though things are rough at the moment on earth, I can see God has a way out. I know, according to Scripture that there are times when things happened before their appointed time because someone prayed. I know that things turned out better because someone prayed.
We can be like Mary; seeking Jesus and not finding Him where He is supposed to be. Maybe we don't have eyes to see Him standing right in front of us, BUT that doesn't stop Jesus from coming. Mary asked the angels, "I do not know where they have laid Him." Even though she didn't understand that Jesus wouldn't being laying there dead, He didn't reject her for her lack of understanding.
When we pray, regardless if we have enough faith to believe God will do what God said He would do, Jesus will come and meet us right where we are. We may not recognize Him at first, but if we open our hearts and allow our minds to receive what we are hearing and seeing, Jesus will speak to us. Our understand or lack thereof does not disqualify us. It is our seeking Jesus that brings Him. He will meet with those who seek Him.
Father I ask for You to come and minister Your amazing love in my life. I pray for a passion to seek You daily, to burn in me every day of my life. I receive Your invitation to be seated with You in heavenly places. I want to see things from Your perspective. When I sit with You I may not see exactly how things are going to turn out, but I know You have a plan and You will bring Your people out of the snare of the enemy. When I sit next to You, I have confidence to pray for what Your heart desires. When You reveal things my mind cannot comprehend I know You are about to demonstrate Your love through the supernatural to minister to the needs of Your people. I ask for You to touch to my mind. I want to comprehend Your presence when I pray. I want to recognize You are here with me. I desire to see You at work around me and join what You are doing. I desire to hear Your voice and be directed to respond as You speak. I want to recognize You. I want to know when You are speaking. I want to know when You are leading me in a different direction. I want to be a part of Your plans to be fulfilled here on earth, in the lives of Your people. I don't want my will to be done, but Your will to be done in the name of Jesus. I want my prayers to line up with Your desires. Even though there are difficult and tragic experiences in life, You are the strength we need. Your love helps us to see beyond our hurts. Your peace held us to refrain from anger. Your joy gives us hope for a better day. I ask for our nation to return to God. I pray specifically for those who have the gift of evangelism. I ask for their hearts to be stirred and revival to not only be in our nation but go around the world to every tribe and every tongue, for everyone to get the opportunity to know You and Your amazing love in Jesus' name I pray amen.
