Luke 19:1-4 (NKJV)Then Jesus entered and passed through Jericho. 2 Now behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus who was a chief tax collector, and he was rich. 3 And he sought to see who Jesus was, but could not because of the crowd, for he was of short stature. 4 So he ran ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see Him, for He was going to pass that way. 5 And when Jesus came to the place, He looked up and saw him,...

Can you imagine? You desperately want to see Jesus, but did you think He would look up at you and see you? Zacchaeus ran ahead of the crowd, he climbed a tree and waited. He waited with great anticipation. He wanted to see this Jesus everyone was talking about. If he hadn't heard anything about Jesus then why did he make such an effort, the rich man that he was, in order to see Jesus? He must have heard some pretty astounding things, because he was going to give himself the best possible position to see Jesus. Do you think he expected Jesus to see him?

How many times have you positioned yourself before Jesus and you were totally fine with just being in His presence? Maybe you didn't even have your eyes open. Jesus was looking at you but you didn't see, Him because your eyes were closed. There are times we need to position ourselves to see Jesus, eyes open, neck straining, head cocked in anticipation for when Jesus would come our way, look our direction, and see us.

I am sure while I waited, anticipating see Jesus, my heart would be rapidly beating but when He looked at me it might have stopped. How many times have I held my breath in anticipation? This would have been one of those times. I would have had to tell myself, "Breathe, just breathe." To have Jesus look up and see me, I might have fallen out of the tree or felt paralyzed. What a moment for Zacchaeus! His mind must have been racing, "He sees me! He sees me! There is no one else up in this tree. He is looking at me!"

Father, I come before You today. I run ahead of the crowd and position myself to see You. Zacchaeus' goal was not be seen it was to see You. Neither is mine. However, I look ahead and see You coming. I want to position myself to see You. Your love for me is amazing. I do not have a comprehension of Your love. To have to stop what You are doing and look at me is beyond words. I pray I would hold Your gaze and allow your love pour over me and touch every fiber of my being. I pray I would be strong enough to receive and not turn away from Your gaze. I pray I would take in that moment and all that would pass between us. I pray I would hold steady under your gaze and be saturated by the moment You took to value me in Jesus' name amen.
