Have You Been?

Warriors Arise: January 17, 2024

Matthew 6:16-18 “Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.

When I am told, "Veridee, I can't hear God. How do you know that you are hearing from Him?" I could give it a very long answer, but the simple fact is that I practiced listening for His voice. Everything the Father says will be backed up in Scripture. As long as we take what we have heard and align it with the proper context of Scripture, we know it was from God. If it wasn't God speaking, we at least know it is Scriptural. Isn't that what Jesus teaches us, to life by every word that proceeds from God?

I desperately want to hear God. I learned from the Bible, He speaks to His children in many different ways. As I studied each way, reading books and listening to podcasts, I carefully listen to see if He would speak to me in one of those ways. I hoped He would speak to me in more than one; however, as long as I knew which way He spoke to me, I would know His voice.

Once I learned how to identify God speaking to me, I realized He had all along. I also could pick His voice out of a crowd and in the different ways He speaks.

The easiest way to hear God is to go to Him. Jesus clearly tells us where He is. He is in the secret place. Have you been to the secret place? Your Father, Daddy God, is in the secret place. When we fast, we get to enter into our Father's secret place.

My Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. You are holy and just. You are peace and joy. You are strength and courage. You welcome me into Your secret place. I delight in being with You. I celebrate our time together. It was never enough to meet You, I wanted to meet with You. I desire to sit at Your table, receive from Your hand and commune with You. I come to You, behind closed doors and without distractions to be with You. You are my focus and my desire is to honor You in Jesus' name amen.
