Does He Scare You?

Warriors Arise: April 21, 2024

Matthew 8:28-34 When He had come to the other side, to the country of the Gergesenes, there met Him two demon-possessed men, coming out of the tombs, exceedingly fierce, so that no one could pass that way. And suddenly they cried out, saying, “What have we to do with You, Jesus, You Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before the time?”

Now a good way off from them there was a herd of many swine feeding. So the demons begged Him, saying, “If You cast us out, permit us to go away into the herd of swine.”

And He said to them, “Go.” So when they had come out, they went into the herd of swine. And suddenly the whole herd of swine ran violently down the steep place into the sea, and perished in the water.

Then those who kept them fled; and they went away into the city and told everything, including what had happened to the demon-possessed men. And behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus. And when they saw Him, they begged Him to depart from their region.

I wanted you to read that passage in its intirty. Does He scare you? I capitalized the He because I am referring to Jesus, not the two demon-possessed men. Does He scare you?

There are times when the power of God can move is such a miraculous way that can scare us. We aren't ready for it, even though when we prayed for it. When my mind can't fully comprehend the act of God I am seeing with my own eyes, then I can be fearful. Does the power of God scare you?

We can receive fear when we refuse to acknowledge the reality of what God has done. The city people came out to see Jesus and then begged Him to leave. Why?

I think they were scared of the power Jesus carried. They hadn't found anyone else who could get rid of these demons that possessed these two men. It scared them. Who could have more power than these two demons. If one man has more power than the demons that were in the two men, they what would He demand for the city? What could He do to them? Would He enslave them? Would He desire to rule over them?

Years ago a friend of mine had a dog who had a disease the veterinarian couldn't cure. The dog was losing his hair and having bald spots. My friend prayed, asking God to give him a sign that his dog would live. He prayed for God to heal his dog. He put his hand on the bald spot and prayed. While my friend was praying hair began to grow. It freaked him out! His dog was healed and lived. But my friend was so disturbed that he turned his back and totally walked away from God. God answered his prayer, but it was so outside of his paradigm. He had no grid for the miraculous. The power of God scare Him.

I wonder if God doesn't answer some of our prayers because we do not have the paradigm; therefore, it would derail us and we would turn from Him? Are you sure you could handle the reality of God answering your prayer? Would the power of God scare you?

My Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. I pray for my paradigm to strength. I truly want to believe for the miracle. I want to be strong enough to carry the miracle You give me. I want it to draw me closer to You. I want to my testimony of Your demonstrative love to compel others to believe. You are amazing in all of Your way. I desire to know You and Your ways. I desire to celebrate You and the miracles You do. I want to pray with faith and with the fire of testimony to see others receive their freedom in Jesus' Name, amen.
