Warriors Arise: March 21, 2021

Daniel 6:11-15 (NKJV) Then these men assembled and found Daniel praying and making supplication before his God. 12 And they went before the king, and spoke concerning the king's decree: “Have you not signed a decree that every man who petitions any god or man within thirty days, except you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions?” The king answered and said, “The thing is true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which does not alter.” 13 So they answered and said before the king, “That Daniel, who is one of the captives from Judah, does not show due regard for you, O king, or for the decree that you have signed, but makes his petition three times a day.” 14 And the king, when he heard these words, was greatly displeased with himself, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him; and he labored till the going down of the sun to deliver him. 15 Then these men approached the king, and said to the king, “Know, O king, that it is the law of the Medes and Persians that no decree or statute which the king establishes may be changed.”
There are times in our lives where our actions or words have cut so deeply we will never forget what we did or what we said. Kind of the flip from yesterday's blog where I shared about being able to forgive yourself. Not one of us was made perfect. Only Jesus and He is God. He never said or did anything wrong. However, for the rest of us, if Eve and Adam had not sinned, I don't think people would have been perfect through the years. If it did make it to 1972 then I am sure I would have been the first one to sin. When we read of the first sin committed in the Bible by Adam (being passive and not stepping in to protect his wife, clarify with Satan what God said) and Eve (for not asking her husband to step in an speak to Satan), we can identify with how sin creeps in and hijacks our life! Things spin out of control until we seek God. Try as we might to make things right, they just won't be until we seek God, repenting for our sin, forgive ourselves, and seek God's way out.
Darius would never forget when the governors and satraps came before him and were called to take action against Daniel. He would never forget that sinking feeling in his stomach and the terrible tastier his mouth when he heard who had prayed to God three times a day instead of him. He would never forget how the men gathered to deliver the news.
There are some sins in our life we don't ever want to forget. Sure we seek forgiveness from God, the person we have sinned again and ourselves. However, even though you don't carry the guilt or shame of your sin, you need to carry the remembrance.
Why would I want you to carry the remembrance of your sin?
If we are so easy to forget what we have done to hurt others and misrepresent God, then we tend to return to the sin, we will do the very same sin again. We might even do the very same sin to the same person again. There are times I need to remember my sin, not to be burdened with guilt or shame but to make sure I don't do it again. Many times when I confess my sin to God and He forgives me, I ask for the Holy Spirit to remind me of my sin when I am headed to doing it again. I don't need to remember it daily. I am not trying to punish myself and I certainly do not want to give room to the enemy to accuse me over and over again for something I have confessed to God and received His forgiveness. I ask the Holy Spirit to remind me so when I am "full of myself" or missing the picture, I can back up and resist being pulled into the sin again.
Sometimes the Holy Spirit will flash a picture in my mind and that will stop me from going forward into sin. Other times He will breakthrough my mind and conviction comes. I might be really ticked off with my kids and overflowing at the mouth. It doesn't matter that I didn't cuss. What matters is how I am saying my words, how my words are cutting their value, confidence, and courage. Everything I said in anger may be accurate; however, I sinned in how I delivered the words. They were a sword cutting to the core of their being. The Holy Spirit will breakthrough, in the midst of my ranting and I will stop immediately. My kids are completely silent and still. They are not sure what is going on. I close my eyes. My voice levels out. I allow the Holy Spirit to correct me. I apologize to my kids and then start in a calm voice and proceed. I calmly remind them what they were to do, ask them why they didn't do it, and then proceed with discipline when necessary. When I flip my lid and respond in anger they don't know what to do with it. When I respond calmly, they do what they are told...at least the next time.
If we ask, the Holy Spirit will remind us so we do not embrace our former sin again. We can remember our sin and not have the guilt, shame or accusations attached to it. We walk in complete forgiveness. Sometimes, we need to be reminded of a situation getting too close to the edge of sin so we do not fall into the trenches below. The Holy Spirit is our guide and His counsel will lead us away from sin.
Darius would remember how he let these men trick him. He would not intrust himself to them again. He would be a king who would protect his trusted people.
Father, I ask for You to come and minister You love to me. You are generous with forgiveness, sometimes I think too quick for forgive. I am extremely grateful. However, there are times I want to be reminded of my sin, especially if I am walking along the same cliff and if the wind blows strong enough I fall. I don't even want to be near that sin again. I want to be free from it. Thank You for Your amazing love toward me. I want to represent You well. I do not want to return to my sin. I want to be forgiven, corrected and walk int he opposite direction. I ask for You to strength my resolve to never return to my former sin in Jesus' name amen.
