Do You Ask for Directions?

Warriors Arise: February 10, 2024

Matthew 7:7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

How many times do we come up to the door and we do not knock? We can ask God for what is one our heart. We can seek God and be filled with His love, have our mind renewed with Scripture, and Holy Spirit speak to us and still we do not see the reality of what God wants to put into our hands. Once you have asked and sought for what God wants to reveal to you to give to you, then we have to knock.

When I need to get somewhere, I ask for directions. I at least need an address. This is the asking Jesus is telling about. We know we want to get to God. He is the destination because He holds the answer, resources, and friendships we need. There are times I have had to ask for directions a number of times. Totally frustrating. I like to know where I am going when I get in the car. I do not like to wander around the countryside when I have somewhere I need to be or someone I need to meet.

Seeking is the traveling from when I started to pursue God for the answer and the searching in Scripure, listening to see who God is going to talk through or some other signal from heaven, and all God reveals through the seeking. Many times on a roadtrip, I will have taken more pictures traveling to the destination as I took when I arrived. I enjoyed the seeking, the journey to get there.

Knocking, once I arrive, I have to actually go in. I have to unpack my bags and prepare to meet God. I have to settle in to the presence of God. I have to knock. The seeking, the journey was great but I came on the journey for a reason. When we get into the presence of God, we need to be ready to knock. We need to meet with Him. We need to receive what He has to say and what He desires to give us.

My Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give me today, my daily bread. I ask where to meet You. I ask for directions. I pray I hear clearly and follow You completely. you are my God. I enjoy seeking You, the place You want to meet. I enjoy the journey along the way. At times, I have felt such an urgency, but I know You are guiding me as I seek You. I will see You every minute of every day of the journey. I know when I arrive, I still need to knock. I need to position myself before You and be prepared to knock in order to receive all You would have for me at this time. I will ask, seek, and knock in Jesus' Name, amen.
