Matthew 4:16 (NKJV) The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light,

And upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death

Light has dawned.”

According to Poem Analysis the quote, "It's always darkest before the dawn" is a proverb that dates back to at least 1650. It's used to suggest that one needs to preserve through hard times. It is right before things get better that they are the hardest.

God's people were in a very difficult time in their history. They loomed in the shadow of death. There were many who longed for their Messiah to come and deliver them from Roman rule.

In the darkest of times, it is difficult to see a way out. Have you ever been up and outside when it is just before dawn? There is even chill in the air. It is also the coldest before dawn. If you are outside, you can feel the temperature drop one last time within the last thirty minutes before the dawn. But when the light has dawned there is a break darkness is moved back and the chill in the air is cut by the warmth the sun releases.

Jesus stepped out of the wilderness and there was a shift in the atmosphere. The authority that came from the sound of His voice cut the chill of the night and the demonstration of God's love brought light that pushed back the darkness. The Light has dawned.

Do you remember the first time your heart quickened and your mind began to believe the stories of God were true and His love for you was real? There was a break in the chill around you and the darkness moved away because the Light had dawned. How you pursued God from that point either stopped time or the world continue to revolve allowing Jesus to shine fulling into Your life. Have you awakened to receive the Light that has dawned?

Father, thank You for the Light dawning with the arrival of Jesus Christ, the Messiah. Thank You for breaking the chill of the night with the Light of Your love. I pray my world continues to revolve around You. I pray for the fullness of Your Light to shine on me and within me, in Jesus' name amen.
