Compared to a Bird

Warriors Arise: January 24, 2024

Matthew 6:25 & 26 “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

I wonder if a bird was flying overhead when Jesus made this comparison. You and I are more valuable than birds. God takes care of the birds. They don't have to sow nor reap nor gather into barns. What is Jesus saying here?

This could totally be taken out of context. If it is taken out of context then it will contradict with other Scriptures. We do have to sow and reap and gather into barns or we will have to migrate like birds. This provokes some thoughts. I wonder if birds are easier to direct than humans. Remember, God sent Elijah to a specific place on Brook Cherith to be fed (1 Kings 17:2-7). The ravens came twice a day dropping bread and meat for him. Elijah also had to go to that same specific place God sent him. The ravens and Elijah were both following God to a specific location.

  • How about you and I?

  • Do we follow God like the ravens?

  • Do we go exactly where God directs us just like Elijah?

I believe when we go where God tells us to go, He will fulfill His promise. He will take care of us. We will not need to worry about the food we will eat or the clothes we will need. We will not have to be concerned because God will provide for the journey He has sent us to fulfill.

  • If Elijah had gone to a different brook, would God have sent the ravens to him?

  • When we do not go where God tells us to go, is God still obligated to follow through on His promise?

  • If God had already directed the ravens would there have been a pile of food at the very place Elijah was supposed to go, but didn't?

I am sure God had a reason why He was sending Elijah to that specific place on Brook Cherith. When God sends us out, He has a reason for each instruction. When we trust Him, we will follow His leading. When we follow His leading, we will receive the fullness of His promise.

My Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give direction for today. I listen for Your Word. I will follow Your lead. You will fulfill Your promise. Thank You for guiding me. Thank You for the opportunity to develop our relationship and strengthen trust. I will do as You say. I will listen and follow. I will receive from You. I will not worry for You will provide for all of my needs according to Your Word in Jesus' name amen.
