Coming Home

Warriors Arise: April 26, 2024

Matthew 9:1&2 So He got into a boat, crossed over, and came to His own city. Then behold, they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you.”

It is wonderful having our son home this week. He came home for a break between semesters and to get his wisdom teeth removed. However, just like Jesus, he also was called upon to do what he does. Josiah arrived on Saturday. After Charis' play, he got out his drums and we ran through the worship set for Sunday morning. Josiah singing and playing the drums with us, I know brought such pleasure to the Father. Then on Monday and Tuesday he worked with my dad, just like he did when he lived here. He wasn't begrudging, he enjoyed returning to the praise team, singing and playing his drums. He enjoyed the time with my dad in the truck and mowing together. He has enjoyed eating well. As a college student without a cafeteria, he doesn't generally eat three meals a day, sometimes only once. Of course, I have been fixing his favorites.

I was thinking of Jesus going home. His mom cooked all his favorite foods. He probably returned to the place where He and Joseph did carpentry. Jesus went home and the people brought Him a paralytic. Jesus didn't waste any time. He operated in the authority His Father had given Him. He spoke and the man was not only forgiven on his sins he was healed. Even going home, where He might have thought He would get some time off from working with His Father, He didn't. The people came with the paralytic and Jesus healed him.

When did we get the idea of returning home mean that we didn't have to do anything? Jesus went home and He called upon to continue to be about His Father's work. Scott and I raised and continue to raise our children with the understanding that we are family and each one of us contributes to the household chores, responsibilities, and supporting one another. Whatever the reason they return home, they will return to their responsibilities to the running of the household and supporting one another. They will also get their favorite meals, pick what we do on our family nights and go with us on family outings.

Jesus continued with His family responsibilities. God had work for Him to do even when He return home to His own city. Jesus didn't argue with God, "But I home, spending time with Mother, Can't I get a break? I want time with my siblings. Can't my disciples continue with the work?"

No, there was no argument. Jesus did what Jesus does. He joined what His Father was doing, He spoke and healed the paralytic.

My Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. I pray I do not miss out on what You are doing just because I go home. I want to walk in perfect alignment with You. I want to be in sync with You even when I am seeking a place of rest, a place of comfort, a place of reconnecting with my family. I never want my awareness of Your presence and what You are doing to be less. I want to know Your presence and walk with You. Even if I am tired, I want to be a contributor to the family, a blessing to my community. Even if I need a break from my routine of responsibilities and ministering, I want to walk with You and do what You are putting before me to do. I will keep my eyes I on You. I will not turn away even when I have gone home or to a place for my personal rest and acceptance in Jesus' Name, amen.
