John 5:8-9 (NKJV) Jesus said to him, “Rise, take up your bed and walk.” 9 And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed, and walked.

I am encouraged by those who have gone before me.

If Peter didn't see Jesus heal this man, he surely heard what Jesus told this man. Jesus demonstrated how to release the power of God, even if the receiver wasn't expecting it. The man Jesus healed wasn't expecting Jesus to heal him. He might have been hoping Jesus would remain with him to get him into the pool when it stirred. However, I do not think he was expecting Jesus to heal him on the spot. So, when Peter encounters the lame man, asking for money, he does the unexpected.

Acts 3:1-10 (NKJV) Now Peter and John went up together to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. 2 And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms from those who entered the temple; 3 who, seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, asked for alms. 4 And fixing his eyes on him, with John, Peter said, “Look at us.” 5 So he gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them. 6 Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” 7 And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. 8 So he, leaping up, stood and walked and entered the temple with them—walking, leaping, and praising God. 9 And all the people saw him walking and praising God. 10 Then they knew that it was he who sat begging alms at the Beautiful Gate of the temple; and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.

Where did Peter get his courage to give this man what he needed, rather than what he was asking for? Jesus. Jesus did what he saw the Father doing. Peter did what he saw Jesus do.

Father, there are so many times I do not know what I need. I may be telling You one thing, but I really need a miracle. I am thankful You see what I need and offer a way out and a new life. I am thankful You are leading the way. Your Word is filled with so many examples of what You have done to strengthen Your people to step out and demonstrate Your amazing love to people. It may be in the miraculous. It may be through listening to the brokenhearted. It may be giving wisdom and direction. You lead the way and we follow. I ask that I would follow in Your footsteps. I desire to release to others Your love, courage, wisdom and power as You have given to me. I pray each one will be drawn to walk in your ways and pass on what You have given them. I pray there would be no end to the demonstration of Your love in Jesus' name amen.
