Isaiah 41:9-10 (NKJV)

You whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, And called from its farthest regions,

And said to you, ‘You are My servant,

I have chosen you and have not cast you away: 10 Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

This David and Goliath conflict wasn't about David killing the Philistine who was terrorizing Saul's army nor was it about defending God. This David and Goliath situation made way for David to step into what God had for him next. When David was anointed, his father, Jesse, sent him back out to tend sheep. He did not begin training him as a leader. When Saul was being tormented by the distressing spirit, he did not see David's potential, only what David could do for him. God brought David out in front of everyone so everyone could see the potential in David. Everyone could see what Saul and his servants knew behind closed doors. They knew David could play his harp and the distressing spirit would go. But for people to know of David's ability, they would have to know of Saul's inability. No leader wants their issues to be brought out for common chatter. Especially not Saul who chose the praises of people over obeying God.

David was positioned on purpose. He left the battlefield encampment to go back and tend his father's sheep. Later, mostly-likely more than 40 days later, his father, sends him to take supplies to his brothers. As he obeyed his father, and returned to the battlefield encampment, he was positioned in the camp at the time the threats were spewed by Goliath. Upon hearing the taunts, he took up the new assignment, for which God sent him.

There are numerous times I thought I was going to do something, but when I arrived something different happened. At those moments, when I did what I was told, when I was told to do it, I found a God-opportunity waiting for me. I had no idea my obedience was positioning me for God's purpose. Have you experienced this in your own life?

How many times have we missed the purpose of God because we were not doing what we knew to be right in the appointed time? God has way of taking an ordinary act of obedience and turning it into an invitation to something extraordinary. God always has a purpose. He always has plans to be on display through our willingness to be where we are supposed to be, doing what we have been asked to do.

Isaiah 42:16 (NKJV)

I will bring the blind by a way they did not know;

I will lead them in paths they have not known.

I will make darkness light before them,

And crooked places straight.

These things I will do for them,

And not forsake them.

That morning, the morning David walked from his father's house to the battlefield to take supplies to his brother's, he had no idea what God had in mind. Just like Jesse had plans and a purpose for David that morning, so did God. David had to obey his father before he would know what God's purpose was for the journey to the battlefield. David had no idea the plans God had for him that day.

Father, I know you can take an ordinary assignment and make it an extraordinary God opportunity. Everything You do in my life has purpose. So many God opportunities happen because I have embraced doing what I have been asked to do. It seems so ordinary but then You step in and have a purpose. You want me to slay the giant and be a part of setting the captives free. I share Your amazing love that heals the sick, mends the broken hearted, rescues people from he pit and sets their feet on solid ground and You do the extrordinary. You demonstrate Your love toward me and those around me. I will do the ordinary and be ready for the extraordinary. I will be positioned to fulfill Your purpose in my everyday life. You are my God and I will honor You in Jesus' name amen.
